AITA for questioning my so for gambling since he has been addicted to gambling before?
My fiancé (M30) and I (F28) have been together for a bit over a year. My fiancé has suffered from gambling addiction (among others) before we met, and although I don't know the actual severity of it, since he prefers not to talk about any details, I do get worried when he wants to now occasionally engage in slot machines, betting etc. I have no previous experience with addiction or dealing with it, but I try my very best to support my fiancé. During the past days he has been gambling again "for fun" and while I have strong worry about it, I tried to be gentle with my commenting on how he has had problems with this before and how he should be careful. Not directly telling him not to do it, even though I partially feel like that's what I should have done. He got very angry about this and doesn't understand why I would feel the need to comment like that, that he will just be more tempted if I bring it up etc. I told him that I was worried and trying to take care of him. This resulted to a big fight that kept us from talking to each other for the rest of the day. I don't know if I stepped the line and my fiancé is very strict about not talking about certain things no matter what, but I still felt the need to try to intervene at least a bit. So AITA?
Gambling is the oldest form of entertainment known to humanity. Centuries ago, pharaohs, emperors, and kings played betting-based games to amuse themselves and get thrilled. But they could hardly imagine that one day there would be casino cities, automatic slot machines, betting kiosks, etc. The list can go on and on. Aboard the Ace of Staves - Hangar 3, Currency Exchange Center "I... see you have a Muunilinst account, sir," said the attractive Twi'lek woman, her voice modulated by an audio projector as she turned to look at the tall, well-dressed man from behind the pane of transparisteel that separated her from the clientele of the Ace of Staves. Hellexix Ordo simply nodded in acknowledgment of the teller's words, not bothering to add that, in fact, he had several Muunilinst accounts - the subtle shine in the Twi'lek's eyes as her demeanor shifted to one of interest in the man let him know that she knew that, as well. "How would you like your denominations, Mr. Ordo?" She smiled in Hellexix's direction. "Ingots, please," Hellexix replied coolly, watching as the teller nodded in response and turned away for several moments to complete the request. Next to Hellexix was Corman Candar, the man that had agreed to pilot Hellexix and his business partner Ulric Sigliano to the up and coming casino ship on which they now found themselves. Looking over at the other man, Hellexix nodded reassuringly as they waited for the teller to retrieve the requested Credit Ingots before twisting his torso around away from the Currency Exchange booth to take in the sights of the casino floor. Pazaac, Sabaac, Collider, slot machines, betting booths for beast races and arena fights, several bars... It was quite the view. The house was packed, too. Nearly all the tables were filled with players and patrons, with one or two open spaces here and there - the perfect ratio of player to house, really. In between the customers, attractive beings of a multitude of races moved about the floor, attending to their duties, serving alcoholic beverages, or generally interacting with the customers in whichever way the clientele desired, the latter portion of the staff making no secret that they were out to solicit sex from those willing to pay their premium. It's like Lessu all over again, Hellexix thought to himself, wishing that one of his Marine buddies from his Ryloth unit were around to share in the nostalgia. His thoughts were interrupted by the teller's voice projecting from the Currency Exchange booth behind him. "Your Ingots, Mr. Ordo," The Twi'lek woman said smoothly. Hellexix looked down at the hiss of a small, hydraulic blast door that opened beneath the teller's transparisteel curtain, revealing a small lockbox in which sat eight, gold Ingots, each intricately adorned with Muun runes and the insignia of the InterGalactic Banking Clan stamped into the metal. Hellexix reached into the lockbox and retrieved the Ingots before returning his gaze to the Twi'lek woman, nodding to her in appreciation. "Thank you very much," the former Marine flashed her a grin. "Any time, Mr. Ordo," she replied in equal measure before returning her gaze to her holocomputer, her demeanor once again purely one of professionalism. "Mr. Candar," Hellexix said, turning towards the man, holding the eight Ingots in his hand out towards Corman, "I believe that these belong to you."
About 3 year ago, I realised I had a serious gambling problem... I am now 2 years and 10 months clean from gambling on any casino, slot machines, bet offices etc... and the debt that I had ongoing has now been wiped all due to hard work and facing my demons head on. This is where this game can become an issue... As many people have pointed out, these companies are owned by Casino's and people who are smart in the ways of making money and getting you to fork out for basically a roll of the dice. I wouldn't say I was F2P, I did occasionally buy the energy packs here and then but nothing more... until this week. The double chance for legends from Ancients Shards became live and the shard packs came rolling in! By the end of the day, I had spent close to £100 chasing shiny pixels on my screen for no benefit other than to help me in the game. To some people this may not seem much, but when you are trying to save for a house, every penny counts! I have now decided to take a break from this game to save the pennies and prevent myself from falling down this rabbit hole again. If anyone else gets stuck in my position and can't escape... please, for your our health and wellbeing take a break and seek help if it gets damaging.
@nytimesbusiness: As Las Vegas prepares to reopen, casinos are now taking out slot machines and considering raising minimum bets at card tables. Regulators have capped capacity at three players a table for blackjack and four for poker. https://t.co/RLomvdzDYL
Video slot machine techs/programmers: how do the choices made in mini/bonus games impact the outcome of the game? Is the "win" decided the moment the initial bet is made or can the player win more/less based on the selections picked (other than initial bet amounts)?
The largest single jackpot in the history of Las Vegas came on a slot machine – a jackpot inthe neighborhood of $36 million on a Megabucks progressive machine. Unfortunately, these progressive prizes also draw in gamblers who have no business playing long-odds contests with huge risk, like progressive games. A computer programmed slot machine game will normally have 3, 5, 6, and 7 main spinning reels. They open up a possible 20, 30, and 50 betting lines, increasing the chances of a big payout on any given spin, but also, of course, simultaneously increasing the amount that one can lose as well. As I leave InterCasino.com for another day, I have some reflections on my experiments with the much-ballyhooed Regression Method of slot machine betting which was laid out in the seminal book on slots wagers, John Patrick’s Slots. My loss at Millionaires Club gives me 4 wins and 4 losses in my Regression sessions. Three of … Read more The payback percentage for the machine The average slot machine player spins the reels 600 times per hour.
