Ivey and Robl post bail for fellow poker player

Phil Ivey has plenty of legal problems to worry about, with some casinos filing lawsuits against him, in an attempt of stripping him of what he considers to be rightfully his. The poker professional won millions of dollars playing baccarat in London and Atlantic City, but both casinos are unwilling to pay. They claim that Ivey cheated, or at least used something they call edge sorting, by taking advantage of a flaw in the design of playing cards. While his lawyers are calling the casinos sore losers and are very optimistic about Phil's chances of winning the lawsuits, the poker player found the time and resources to help a friend in need. He and Andrew Robl chipped in and paid $2.5 million in bail, to have Wei Seng "Paul" Phua released from custody, as well as his son Wai Kit "Darren" Phua. Before the two poker players paid the bail, the highrollers were under arrest in Las Vegas pending allegations of running illegal poker rings. This is not the first time that Ivey comes to the rescue of fellow poker players, with Daniel Cates joining him a few days ago to pay the bail for the same players. Caesars Palace in Las Vegas called upon the police and told him that the defendants were running an illegal gaming ring and this resulted in the arrest of Wei Seng "Paul" Phua and his son. In addition, Hui Tang was also arrested but as a result of the poker players paying the bail on their behalf, he was promptly released. The two Malaysian poker players are frequently competing in highroller tournaments in Macau and are widely regarded as some of the most successful participants. Ivey considers them to be personal friends and as a result had no hesitations in playing what many would regard as a staggering amount. Even though the three defendants are now out of jail, they are prohibited from gambling and are not allowed to go online either. Those who play poker over the Internet and use gambling companies that also provide them with the option of betting on sports, don't run into similar troubles. Titan Poker serve thousands of customers who appreciate their poker room and also run a successful bookies. Andrew Robl posts bail for Paul Phua

Two weeks ago, another major scandal broke out in Las Vegas, where several poker professionals and Chinese businessman were arrested. This is not the first time that the authorities take poker players into custody, in an attempt of cracking down on illegal gambling. Apparently, Paul Phua was picked up together with seven more players for allegedly running a legal betting ring. It all happened at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, but the authorities told the media that the casino had nothing to do with these activities. In fact, the casino officials went to great lengths to prove their innocence and assisted the authorities in every way possible. Unfortunately for Paul Phua who has a reputation for being a solid poker player and a successful businessman, things took a turn for the worse, as he was arrested together with his son. The police claims that the eight players decided to circumvent bookmakers and instead were betting among each other on events unfolding in Brazil. The World Cup 2014 generated a lot of interest over the last couple of weeks and apparently, these poker professionals were no exception. Since the betting took place at Caesars Palace casino, the players got kicked out but they decided to set camp in another casino and that's where the FBI arrested them. The bail was set for $2 million and the Chinese businessman and poker professional paid most of it but fellow poker player Andrew Robl chipped in with $1.5 million. Allegedly, Phua also had to use his private jet as a collateral to get out of jail, but at the end of the day it was all worth it, because both him and his son Darren were released. The fact that Andrew decided to pay a part of the money is not surprising, since the two players are good friends and know each other for many years. Robl has a reputation for playing in some of the biggest live and online tournaments, therefore, he had the resources to support his friend. Only time will tell whether the consequences of these illegal betting activities will come back to bite Paul Phua, or if an agreement will be reached with the authorities. These sort of problems are not troubling those who choose to play poker over the Internet, especially if they have an account with Winner Poker. These guys run their own bookmaker and the World Cup 2014 was given comprehensive coverage, not to mention that players have a unified account. In a nutshell, poker players can easily and conveniently wager on sports events in complete accord with the law.
