Everything You Wanted to Know About CBD Oil for Sleep

What is CBD Oil?

A cannabis plant produces many compounds including cannabidiol or CBD. The concentration of CBD in the oil varies and so its uses.
CBD should not be confused with delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the most active ingredient in a cannabis plant. While THC gives a “high” when consumed (either by smoking or eating marijuana-based foods), CBD does not alter the state of mind of the person consuming it. CBD also should not be confused with marijuana, which again contains both THC (in higher concentration) and CBD.

How is CBD Oil Made?

CBD is made from hemp, a type of cannabis plant that is primarily cultivated for seeds, hurd, and fiber. The CBD oil is extracted from hemp’s leaves, stems and, seeds. There are four common methods used for CBD oil extraction, which are:
The processes mentioned above make the CBD oil suitable for human consumption. Some strains of hemp are known to have a higher concentration of CBD making them first choice among CBD producers.

How CBD Oil Improves Sleep Quality?

Several studies indicate that CBD oil has pain-reducing and anti-inflammatory effect on our body. It is known to interact with several proteins, receptors, and chemicals in our brain. These interactions of CBD, in turn, have a cascading effect on multiple functions in our body, that include – regulating sleep-wake cycles, regulating emotions, combating inflation, and managing the perception of pain.
Thus, apart from improving sleep quality, CBD oil is also known to be beneficial for people suffering from:
Owing to its ability to reduce anxiety, CBD is found to be effective in reducing sleep difficulties and improving overall sleep quality. People suffering from insomnia due to chronic pain have also been benefited by consuming CBD oil in controlled doses.
You can increase daytime alertness as well as reduce daytime sleepiness by consuming CBD oil in controlled doses. By doing so, you encourage your body to get quality during nights.
CBD oil especially has been found to be effective in treating REM behavior disorder. For a normal person, the body stays paralyzed during the REM stage of the sleep. However, in people suffering from REM behavior disorder, paralysis does not occur that leaves people to move freely – in their sleep. This leads to disruptive sleep and high chances of injuring themselves or their sleep partners.
REM sleep abnormalities, commonly found in people suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are also treated using CBD oil, research suggests.

How to Use CBD Oil?

CBD oil can be consumed for improving sleep quality in multiple ways. However, it is necessary for you to consult your physician if you have an existing condition. Following are the ways you can consume CBD oil:
Before deciding to consume CBD oil in any form, you need to determine the required oil strength to treat your condition. The CBD oil product comes with its concentration clearly mentioned on the label.
The does also depend on the purpose of consumption and your body weight.

Is CBD Oil Safe?

The fact that CBD oil is associated with marijuana is what makes most people take a step back and wonder if it is actually safe to consume. However, what you should realize is that CBD oil does not have the psychoactive chemical compound THC which is what gets you high when you smoke cannabis. Ergo, CBD oil will not get you high. Furthermore, it isn’t rolled up in a join which you can smoke, CBD oil is simply oil from the hemp plant which you may rub topically or ingest with a drink or food.
The reason CBD oil does not have the THC is that it comes from a different part of the plant than from where the smokable cannabis is derived. Research on CBD oil is still in its infancy, and studies show far seem to conclude that oil is generally harmless and could, in fact, have some good health benefits for certain individuals. However, there have been reports of the onset of a few side effects in some rare cases. Reported side effects include inhibited liver function, dry mouth or cotton mouth decreased blood pressure, diarrhea and an increase in appetite.
While the consensus amongst the medical community with regards to CBD oil at this point is that it is safe to use or consume. We would still advise that you consult with your doctor prior to self – medicating with CBD oil for any reason.

Legally buying CBD Oil in US

The legality of CBD oil and hemp-based products, in general, has been a hot topic of debate and discussion in the recent past. Hemp at the end of the day is a natural plant, and its products are hence plant-based products. If CBD oil and other hemp-based products were derived from some other plant and not a hemp plant per se, its legality would probably never have been questioned. However, since it is derived from the hemp plant, from which marijuana is also derived, we find that there is some controversy, confusion, and speculation when it comes to its legality across the US.
Given that CBD oil is free of psychoactive chemical compounds and cannot get the user high, and considering that the hemp plant itself is not a controlled substance, hemp-based products (including CBD oil) are essentially legal products which may be lawfully traded and possessed in all 50 states of the United States of America.
Sadly, there is a caveat here. As per the 2014 Farm Bill, hemp may only be grown legally for the purpose of academic research purposes, and as a result, any hemp derived product that comes from a hemp plant not grown for research purposes would technically be illegal. However, it is very seldom that this law is enforced with regards to CBD oil as more people are becoming aware and educated about the oil and its many health benefits. Legislation which will effectively make hemp products legal irrespective of what purpose the plant was grown for is in the pipeline, and we expect to hear a decision about it soon.
The legality of CBD oil is further made complex by the fact that CBD oil can either be hemp derived or marijuana-derived. When it comes to marijuana-based- CBD oil, the legal restrictions vary from state to state. It is completely illegal in some states, legal depending on certain factors in some states, and completely legal in some states. So, it really depends on which state you are based in.
There are five states where the laws regarding marijuana – based – CBD oil are a bit complex, and changes may be in the pipeline, these states are Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, and South Dakota. If you happen to reside in one of these states, you will need to check the lawbooks of state or consult with an attorney to fully comprehend where the law stands on marijuana – based – CBD oils. For most other states, you may refer to the below table to get a general idea of the legality of marijuana – based – CBD oils at the time of writing.
Summary of LawAffected StatesMarijuana-based CBD oils are only legal for persons who have reached the age of 21 or over and for minors that have exclusive approval for use.Alaska, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, WashingtonMarijuana-based CBD oil legal for persons 21 and over and minors with exclusive approval. Medical marijuana patients need approval.ArkansasMarijuana-based CBD oil is illegal for recreational use and only allowed for medical use with a prescription, irrespective of THC content.Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, WisconsinMarijuana-based CBD oil is illegal for recreational use and only allowed for medical use provided the THC content does not exceed a specified % which may vary state to state.Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wyoming.Marijuana-based CBD oil is only legal for medicinal use for medical patients with a state – registered ID only.New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island
In summary, if you are concerned about the legality of CBD oils and want to ensure your use of it is completely lawful, then you should be mindful of the fact that when it comes to hemp-based CBD oils, you are safe no matter where in the US you are when it comes to purchase and use. However, with Marijuana based CBD oils, the legislation varies from one state to another, and it would be best to refer to the rules in your state specifically to understand and abide by them.

Things You Should Know Before buying CBD Oil for Sleep

If you are suffering from insomnia or are just looking to get a better night’s sleep. CBD oil could be very useful indeed. It is known to reduce anxiety considerably and instill tranquility, thereby making it easier for users to fall asleep.
However, what you should know if you are buying or using CBD oil for longer sleep and better sleep quality is that in smaller doses, CBD oil stimulates the body during daytime and helps rid of general fatigue and laziness which helps the individual focus on the task at hand. In fact, a lot of gym goers even use CBD oil by administering a few drops under the tongue prior to their workout or post their workout as it can assist as both a pre-workout stimulant as well as a recovery aid post workout.
If you are looking to get CBD oil to fall asleep, you will need to administer larger doses, and we advise that you consult with your doctor in order to use CBD oil properly and effectively for the purpose of sleep. Furthermore, you should consider buying certain strains of CBD oils such as liposomes and melatonin, one prime example of a CBD formulation made to help specifically in sleep is called the
Power Sleep CBD. This formulation is popular amongst insomniacs and persons that have trouble falling asleep in general.
CBD oil has been said to treat the root cause of sleep deficiency itself and not just lack of sleep as a symptom. It relieves anxiety, PTSD, depression, relieves pain and even chronic pain which are some of the root causes of sleeplessness in most individuals.

Other Important Factors to Consider

CBD oils products are very popular, and there are now several hundred manufacturers making formulations for specific and generic purposes. There are some things that you should consider while purchasing or using CBD oil.
Obviously, the legality factor would be of paramount importance for most as they would not want to get in trouble with the law. When you stick to hemp-based CBD oil and avoid cannabis-based CBD oil, you are generally at lesser risk of violating the law. Then you need to consider the legislation in your state to understand where the legislation stands on recreational use and medicinal use and proceed accordingly. You might need to get a prescription by a doctor if required as per state law.
Another important consideration is your body weight. To put it simply, your dose will vary depending on your body weight. If you are on the heavier end of the scale, you will need a higher dose. So, check what dose you need to be taking for your purpose and your weight specifically.
Do you have drug tests where you work? You should know that some cannabis-based – CBD oils have a certain percentage of THC in them and this could result in your testing positive for marijuana use in a random drug test. You should be mindful of this fact, and it is better to stick to hemp-based – CBD oils or crystalline isolate oils without THC for this reason.

I want to give thanks to my favorite dispensary, for both good and bad times.

Located in the East Bay Area of California is a little blue building in a residential neighborhood that is well known to the locals called CBCB. I fucking LOVE this place. Some of you may have been to this dispensary and I hope you had a good time there. This place was the first ever dispensary I ever walked into and purchased legal bud. The first time I walked in, I was super fucking nervous. I couldn't believe I actually OBTAINED a medical marijuana card (I smoke recreationally and medically as needed) and was about to purchase bud LEGALLY for the first time. It was like my first ever highschool purchase in my head. I signed up with the very friendly receptionist and I was still in shock I was doing this.
She buzzed me through the door and I was bombarded with a DJ spinning, long line, lots of budtenders, glass case with a lot of discounted glass, couches, tables, ATM machine, CBCB clothing, free water and the whole place REEKED of pot. It was my 18th birthday that I had obtained my card and walked into this place. I felt like a child in there and that I wasn't supposed to be there. As I stand in line, I notice the screens displaying their menu. This place has bud from $15-$60 an 8th. They have a wide selection of concentrates, edibles, vape cartridged, prerolls. So when it was finally my turn, I had about $200 on me and no fucking idea what I was in for. I told them that it was my first time at that dispensary and ever buying medical marijuana. They then informed me that first-time patients get a free preroll. My jaw fucking dropped. I just got free weed for signing up. This never happened in highschool, I usually got bad weed and ripped off or someone just handing me bud in no wrapping so I would stuff it in a water bottle and put dryer sheets in the bottle to mask the smell. It came professionally packed and leaked no smell. I was just losing my shit left and right. I then asked the budtender if there was a typo on the $15 priced bud. They informed me that it was not and went and grabbed an 8th to let me examine.
I almost passed out. I had never bought an 8th in highschool because they would be like $50 and smell too much so I would buy 15 sacs that were sometimes, questionable (I had actually returned weed to someone because I got a 5 bag for 10). They brought out a smell proof container with the bud still on the stems and no seeds. I thought it was too good to be true but it was true. They also get their bud lab tested and have THC, CBD and CBN percentages. I knew that average highschool weed would be 12% and this $15 8th had 22% THC. I was just shitting myself over and over. So I copped that and also got myself a pack of rino pellets (they're weak edibles, 15mg), CBD capsules to see what it was like, Hashman THC sativa capsules and two more prerolls. Since I had spent $50, I was given a free preroll. Holy shit was I in love. I was also shown that once you spend $1000, you get a $60 credit reward and can use it on anything to make a free purchase or to get $60 off your purchase. I was seriously impressed with this place and how serious medical marijuana is taken. There was a variety of patients including young people like me, disabled, old, different personalities all with a common interest. This place was just so relaxed and chill.
Even though I love this place, there has been some visits that didn't feel like the rest. Since I have piercings, I make their metal detector beep every single time. I understand that but there was an occasion or two where the security guard harassed me and made me empty out all of my pockets and searched my backpack. I get that can raise suspicion in a place like this but he made it seem like I was intending to rob this place and was trying to slide my way through this. The only reason I would bring my backpack is to abide to their rules and keep my purchases out of sight when I exit the premises and not have a giant paper bag in my front hoodie pocket. Someone could follow me and simply rob me for my marijuana since I obviously just walked out of the dispensary and display I have it in my front pocket. At least with a backpack, it would seem like I might not even have anything from there. I totally understand this situation and just simply left my backpack at home and put the bag in my front pocket. Since this was also during the winter, I would wear warm clothes out like a normal person. This also raised an alarm with them and took a bit longer to identify me from showing my ID. I have never tried to fake something or pull something with anyone there and would come at least twice a week. I just wanted to buy my cannabis and leave. This made me uncomfortable sometimes because they thought I was possible trouble. I work customer service and definitely recognize a regular face and I'm sure they recognized me as I recognized them.
Another problem I have is their weedmaps menu is probably 90% of the time incomplete. Makes it hard to budget my purchases and see if the trip out there is worth it. I am a fan of their half ounce specials and they never post these online. They can have $55 half ounces and $100 ounces. That is my perfect budget buy unless I can't afford it. So I take a lot of risk going in there trying to figure out what I can buy. It takes me about an hour to get there and an hour to get home(public transportation and walking). That is by no means their problem and is my choice to make the journey, just wish I could see the entire menu and prices to make almost every trip count. Other problems I have had is that sometimes their bud is just lacking in THC (baked af budtender recommended me the half oz, my usual go to, I decided to trust him since I just wanted to go home and smoke, get home and this shit is full of leaves and only 8.??% THC) and not being a CBD strain. I buy all kinds of different shelf 8ths and have noticed stems, seeds, leaves in top and bottom shelf. Other problems such as: snapping at customers using their phones (reasonable to a degree, being wayyy too high to work, overpriced concentrates, not keeping a balanced menu like 15 indicas, 12 hybrids and 4 sativas, too many topshelf choices and not enough budget meds. I have also read a lot of things on weedmaps about budtenders giving comments on people buying budget meds and not their topshelf, underweight product (or maybe they had a bad scale), moldy bud. I have never personally experienced this and the reviews could totally be fake, it's just what is written. Being the kind of person I am, I understand a lot of this. Sometimes shit is just out of your control and you get a bitchy customer. They also get very busy at times and it's hard to satisfy every single customer, every single day. Everybody I have stood in line with never seemed to have a problem with anything and budtenders took their time with them. So even though I have had some bad experiences with CBCB, a lot of it could have been avoided if I was more experienced like I am now. Before, I assumed everything was 100% done properly. Took me a few mistakes but I learned to ask for multiple bottles of the same strain and inspect it carefully and make sure I am content with what I want.
Although I've had bad times at this place, I still keep going back. The biggest reason I keep coming back is that this place isn't just a dispensary. It really feels like a club and a community. They offer a lot of free services to members and hold events regularly. I went here on Thanksgiving Day and saw volunteers and staff handing out meals to anyone who aren't having a Thanksgiving for whatever reason. They offered me a plate but I refused because I actually was having a Thanksgiving at home and would rather have my plate be given to someone else who needed it. I just happened to want to go on Thanksgiving. They constantly give back to the community and do food drives and a lot of charitable events. This makes me feels good about where my money is going. They also have a program that gives access to free, quality medical marijuana for patients who could really use it but can't afford it. They also have some very helpful and patient budtenders. I must've made my budtender today walk back and forth 5-6 times because I couldn't decide on what I wanted. I even apologized for making my purchase a bit harder than usual (I redeemed my $60 rewards credit so I could get a free half oz. I also was having some brain fog so it took me a minute to think about how much I was going to spend and what concentrate I wanted). They have some really cool employees and one of them (Jay, older guy, sleeves, ears pierced) actually complimented my hoodie. This is the only dispensary that I have visited that is active with the community. I also love that they have an option for the less fortunate and supply cheaper options. Their bottomshelf $15 8th, called Delta Boogie contained 20.79% THC and was being sold in half ounces for $55 which I picked up. This is perfect weed for me. I'll admit that it isn't the best shit ever, but it beats their $25 8th of Black Lime at 15.??% THC. I tried them both because my friend got the Black Lime. We both like mine more. They also supply smoking pieces and accessories. If you spend $50, you get a house cone preroll which is $5 if purchased seperately and will get you pretty high if you have little to no tolerance. About 12.7% THC and if you're a light smoker, these will do you good. If you're Mr.Dab and have raised your tolerance, these are nothing. But it's free weed and you can simply just give it to somebody who would actually get stoned from it, like grandma. For $100 you get a small edible, 20mg it says on the one I got today. I gave them both to a cutie girl who just started participating in pot and felt good about that. I had to share some of my luck. The club also does recycling of old plastic containers and is just all around a good place. They want to spread good vibes and health.
It may just be that I'm the type of guy who understands that shit happens and will come back despite bad experiences. Hell, the other day my pizza was 2 hours late but I know it was Saturdsy night and I ordered delivery online, so it wasn't anybody at the store lying to me. Dumb shit happens at my job I have no control over and people get pissy with me. I strive to not be that person and want an employee to recognize me as an easy, laidback customer who gets it. Now, if this place started removing their cheaper products, I wouldn't go there as much. I go to this place because they want to make a difference and help people who can't afford the high priced cannabis from other places. I currently got my hours cut back at my job and only make $150-$200 every two weeks now. I can't afford a $60 8th making that kind of money. I need medical marijuana to help with my physical illnesses such as multiple sclerosis-like symptoms(hope i dont have it), high blood pressure, migraines, chronic leg and knee pain. Pain pills are too addicting for me and I've taken so many NSAIDs over the years I have probably damaged my liver and kidneys and want to give them a break. And of course, like everyone, helps me sleep.
I am no way affiliated with this place besides for being a customer. I know nobody personally who works there. Hate this place or not, I am a satisfied customer and wanted to see if anyone in this sub has been here before or is a regular like me. I just love it when dispensaries give back. It helps give us a better image as cannabis consumers. My family does not approve of my choice on smoking cannabis, even as an adult with a prescription, who is in control of it and consumes responsibly. I can't wait for the day that all this bullshit propaganda on marijuana goes away. It doesn't ruin everyone's life. I'm living proof that a stoner can get straight A's and go to college to get a Master's in Computer Science. If you would like to try this dispensary if you are ever in the area, it is located in Berkeley, CA and is about a 5 minute walk from the Ashby BART station.
Tl;dr I talk about my favorite cannabis club, my first legal purchase, pros and cons of the places, what keeps me coming back, their involvement in our community and showing compassion.
PS: I want to give a big fuck you to my 12th grade Government teacher for saying a pothead would never get a good grade in your class and that we're all "dumb and lazy". I got a fucking A in your class asshole, and in all of my other classes.
