Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Here are the most popular versions of Nakamoto’s identity — from the craziest to the most believable ones.
On May 20, 2020, there was stated the transaction of 50 BTC that were mined in February 2009. Then, only a few people were engaged in its mining, with Hell Finney among them, known as the first cryptocurrency recipient, and the Bitcoin creator — Satoshi Nakamoto.
The community believes that Satoshi Nakamoto is not the name of a real person. Some offered a trivial explanation: a quartet of technology companies SAmsung, TOSHIba, NAKAmichi, and MOTOrola can form the name Satoshi Nakamoto, but it seems far-fetched. There were no women among the candidates for the post of Nakamoto. The authors of all investigations are convinced that it is either a man or a group of people (most likely men).

Dorian Nakamoto

In 2014, Newsweek published perhaps the most high-profile investigation about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Journalists found an American of Japanese descent named Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto in California. He was 64 years old and flatly refused to communicate with the press. The person living in California was indeed a mathematician, physicist, and computer engineer and in the past worked on classified projects by private corporations and the US Department of Defense. However, Dorian Nakamoto completely denied the rumors and added that the hype around him caused stress for his family and asked to respect his privacy. A day after the publication of the article, Satoshi Nakamoto's profile on the P2PFoundation website came to life to write only one message: "I'm not Dorian Nakamoto."

Faketoshi

Another “Satoshi moment” happened at the end of 2015, when the Bitcoin developers received a letter from [email protected], which was previously associated with Nakamoto. A letter with the subject line “Not this again” said: “I’m not Craig Wright”.Craig Steven Wright, an Australian entrepreneur, and scientist is probably the only person in the world who does not refute his involvement in Bitcoin but proves to everyone around that he created the first cryptocurrency in 2008. Wright affirmed that he was Satoshi Nakamoto. According to him, he left the project because of shame — he accused well-known developers and community representatives of striving to distribute child pornography and drugs using Bitcoin. Somehow, the version of Craig Wright, known as Faketoshi, looks rather dubious. The Wired published an article in which journalists cited several facts that contradict this version. In particular, it was said that two PGP keys, which were believed to prove that Satoshi and Craig Wright are one person, were created retroactively. It was also mentioned that Dr. Wright may not be a doctor at all: Charles Sturt University denied that he ever awarded him the title of doctor.

Nick Szabo

Probably the most plausible version is the creation of Bitcoin by cryptographer Nick Szabo. Back in 2013, researcher Sky Gray named the reasons why he believes that Szabo is Satoshi:
In the 1990s, Szabo also created the concept of smart contracts, which were implemented only after 10 years. Thus, if he was Satoshi, the community would conclude that this is quite logical, but Szabo denies everything.

Elon Musk

This theory that Elon Musk is the developer of Bitcoin has no documentary evidence, but it does have many indirect features. For example, Elon Musk is a well-known innovator, and therefore the idea of creating Bitcoin, which in the future will become the only world currency, could well have crossed his mind. Or at least he might have just created cryptocurrency in order to get the better of banks and government and make free finances for ordinary people. As we know very well, Elon Musk is an excellent programmer, and he is able to write code in the same programming language in which Bitcoin is written. Naturally, Elon Mask himself denies his involvement in the creation of bitcoin. However, everyone who was nominated for the role of Satoshi does this. Of course, if you do not take into account Faketoshi Craig Wright.

John McAfee knows who hides under this nickname

On May 3, 2020, a cryptoveteran and fugitive US presidential candidate John McAfee gave an exclusive interview to Cointelegraph. McAfee believes that linguistic analysis of technical documentation, also known as stylometry, will help to reveal Satoshi to an attentive reader. In fact, this is all you need to remove the personality of Satoshi Nakamoto from the secret list. He mentioned that only five percent of the population put two spaces after the period. According to him, if you buy a program for determining authorship for $200 and upload Bitcoin White Paper, you will understand who that mystical Satoshi is with 99% probability.

Great mystery

As long as secrets exist, people will try to uncover them. If Bitcoin really becomes a new form of money, then the question of the creator will be more relevant than ever. Who was this man and what were his motives? Why do we not know anything about him, although he might have become fabulously rich?
It is not known whether the real name of Satoshi Nakamoto will ever be known to the community, but it is known for sure that Bitcoin works regardless of whether this happens or not.
To some extent, the story of Satoshi is the best thing that happened with the first cryptocurrency in its entire history, because then the problem of the emergence of a personality cult was solved by itself.

CRYPTOCURRENCY SYSTEM USING BODY ACTIVITY DATA
BACKGROUND [0001] A virtual currency (also known as a digital currency) is a medium of exchange implemented through the Internet generally, not tied to a specific government-backed “flat” (printed) currency such as the U.S. dollar or the Euro, and typically designed to allow instantaneous transactions and borderless transfer of ownership. One example of virtual currency is cryptocurrency, wherein cryptography is used to secure transactions and to control the creation of new units. [0002] Several cryptocurrencies exist. Among these, the most well known is a blockchain-based cryptocurrency. Most blockchain-based cryptocurrency is decentralized in the sense that it has no central point of control.
However, blockchain-based cryptocurrency can also be implemented in a centralized system having a central point of control over the cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin is one of the examples of blockchain-based cryptocurrency. It is described in a 2008 article by Satoshi Nakamoto, named“Bitcoin: A peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”.
[0003] A blockchain is a data structure that stores a list of transactions and can be thought of as a distributed electronic ledger that records transactions between source identifier(s) and destination identifier(s). The transactions are bundled into blocks and every block (except for the first block) refers back to or is linked to a prior block in the blockchain. Computer resources (or nodes, etc.) maintain the blockchain and cryptographically validate each new block and the transactions contained in the corresponding block. This validation process includes computationally solving a difficult problem that is also easy to verify and is sometimes called a“proof-of-work”. This process is referred to as“mining”. The mining may be a random process with low probability so that a lot of trial and error is required to solve a computationally difficult problem. Accordingly, the mining may require enormous amounts of computational energy. [0004] It is with respect to these and other general considerations that the following embodiments have been described. Also, although relatively specific problems have been discussed, it should be understood that the embodiments should not be limited to solving the specific problems identified in the background.
SUMMARY
[0005] Some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure may use human body activity associated with a task provided to a user as a solution to“mining” challenges in cryptocurrency systems. For example, a brain wave or body heat emitted from the user when the user performs the task provided by an information or service provider, such as viewing advertisement or using certain internet services, can be used in the mining process. Instead of massive computation work required by some conventional cryptocurrency systems, data generated based on the body activity of the user can be a proof-of-work, and therefore, a user can solve the computationally difficult problem unconsciously. Accordingly, certain exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure may reduce computational energy for the mining process as well as make the mining process faster.
[0006] Systems, methods, and hardware aspects of computer readable storage media are provided herein for a cryptocurrency system using human body activity data. According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, a server may provide a task to a device of a user which is communicatively coupled to the server. A sensor communicatively coupled to or comprised in the device of the user may sense body activity of the user. Body activity data may be generated based on the sensed body activity of the user. A cryptocurrency system communicatively coupled to the device of the user may verify whether or not the body activity data satisfies one or more conditions set by the cryptocurrency system, and award cryptocurrency to the user whose body activity data is verified.
[0007] Examples are implemented as a computer process, a computing system, or as an article of manufacture such as a device, computer program product, or computer readable medium. According to one aspect, the computer program product is a computer storage medium readable by a computer system and encoding a computer program comprising instructions for executing a computer process. [0008] This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the Detailed Description. This summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter.
decentralized cryptocurrency networks or databases.
[0021] FIG. 1 illustrates an example environment 100 in which some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure may be practiced. The example environment 100 includes, but is not limited to, at least one of task server 110, communication network 120, user device 130, sensor 140, and cryptocurrency system 150. [0022] Task server 110 may provide one or more tasks to user device 130 over communication network 120. For example, task server 110 may be at least one of a web server delivering or serving up web pages, an application server handling application operations between users and applications or databases, a cloud server, a database server, a file server, a service server, a game server implementing games or services for a game, and a media server delivering media such as streaming video or audio. The tasks provided by task server 110 will be discussed in more detail below.
[0023] Alternatively, cryptocurrency system 150 may provide one or more tasks to user device 130. For example, in a decentralized cryptocurrency network, the tasks may be proposed to user device 130 by miners (e.g. compute resources or nodes 210 of FIG. 2). In another example, in a centralized cryptocurrency system, a cryptocurrency server may send the tasks to user device 130.
[0024] Communication network 120 may include any wired or wireless connection, the internet, or any other form of communication. Although one network 120 is identified in FIG. 1, communication network 120 may include any number of different communication networks between any of the server, devices, resource and system shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and/or other servers, devices, resources and systems described herein. Communication network 120 may enable communication between various computing resources or devices, servers, and systems. Various implementations of communication network 120 may employ different types of networks, for example, but not limited to, computer networks, telecommunications networks (e.g., cellular), mobile wireless data networks, and any combination of these and/or other networks. [0025] User device 130 may include any device capable of processing and storing data/information and communicating over communication network 120. For example, user device 130 may include personal computers, servers, cell phones, tablets, laptops, smart devices (e.g. smart watches or smart televisions). An exemplary embodiment of user device 130 is illustrated in FIG. 6.
[0026] Sensor 140 may be configured to sense the body activity of user 145. As illustrated in FIG. 1, sensor 140 may be a separate component from user device 130 and be operably and/or communicatively connected to user device 130. Alternatively, sensor 140 may be included and integrated in user device 130. For example, user device 130 may be a wearable device having sensor 140 therein. The sensor 140 may transmit information/data to user device 130. Sensor 140 may include, for example, but not limited to, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanners or sensors, electroencephalography (EEG) sensors, near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) sensors, heart rate monitors, thermal sensors, optical sensors, radio frequency (RF) sensors, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, or any other sensor or scanner that can measure or sense body activity or scan human body. For instance, the fMRI may measure body activity by detecting changes associated with blood flow. The fMRI may use a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body (e.g. blood flow in the brain to detect areas of activity). The material (http://news.berkely.edu/20l l/09/22/brain-movies/) shows one example of how the fMRI can measure brain activity associated with visual information and generate image data.
[0027] Cryptocurrency system 150 may include one or more processors for processing commands and one or more memories storing information in one or more cryptocurrency data structures. In some embodiments, cryptocurrency system 150 may be a centralized cryptocurrency system or network, for example, but not limited to, a server which may be privately run by a third party entity or the same entity that is running the task server 110. In other embodiments, cryptocurrency system 150 may be a publically accessible network system (e.g., a distributed decentralized computing system).

"The Network Effect is King" - What I have learned after 3 years in crypto (Part 3)

This post is the third post of mine on things I've learned in the 3 years I have been in crypto. So far I have only posted them in the EthFinance daily since I didn't think they were worthy of dedicated posts but I have since figured I may as well post one here and see what you all think. Links to the first two posts are at the bottom.

Here’s part 3 of my thoughts and what I have learned after 3 years in the crypto space. Enough with the embarrassing stories for now. Today I’m going to talk about one of the most fundamental rules in emerging technologies. It is very simple and goes as follows.

I cannot emphasise this enough. Coming into the crypto space I was already aware of the network effect. Just incase anyone here is unaware of the network effect, some dictionary app built into my MacBook defines the network effect as a phenomenon whereby a product or service gains additional value as more people use it. It’s why everyone uses Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp despite the incredibly invasive data tracking and despite the existence of private, secure, end to end encrypted alternatives such as Signal or Wire which are just as easy to use. Nobody wants to be “that guy” who makes their friends sign up to a new service just to stay in touch with each other (for the sake of helping people take online privacy more seriously, please be “that guy”, I will love you long time). The fact that you can join and have all of your friends already there in the app ready to interact with gives these platforms more value than other platforms which are fundamentally better.

Unsurprisingly, crypto is no different. It’s why Bitcoin is still #1. The vast majority of people in crypto have a Bitcoin wallet and most people on the street have heard of Bitcoin even if they don’t know what it is. So if your store wants to accept Bitcoin or your website wants to accept donations, Bitcoin is the most obvious go to since most people will recognise the Bitcoin logo and anyone who owns crypto will almost certainly own some Bitcoin. However, if you display an ETH address, only those who truly delved deep into crypto and understand the advantages of Ethereum will have an Ethereum wallet. Just like how only the more privacy conscious individuals will have heard of or use Signal or Wire for messaging apps.

Now here is where the network effect is important for us. As everyone in this sub should know, Ethereum is a turing complete ‘world computer’ whereas Bitcoin is strictly a payment network or digital store of value depending on who you ask. This clearly indicates that Ethereum’s potential market is much larger that Bitcoin’s since it can do what Bitcoin does and has dozens of other use cases like being a global settlement layer, tokenisation of digital and real world assets, insurance, supply chain tracking etc etc. The list goes on. Most importantly, in the field of this ‘world computer’ ultimate use case for blockchain which Ethereum is chasing after, Ethereum has by far the largest network effect.

So what will it take for one of the many Ethereum killers to flip Ethereum? If you ask me, Ethereum’s head start is so large that even if the Ethereum ecosystem were to tear itself apart over a contentious hard fork I still wouldn’t be betting on a competitor to flip Ethereum’s largest fork unless we start to see some real adoption and infrastructure such as DeFi on these ETH killer chains. Ethereum being flipped seems about as plausible as Signal flipping WhatsApp. It’s pretty much a pipe dream.

But what about Bitcoin then? Does this mean that Ethereum will never flip Bitcoin either? No, of course not. In fact, Ethereum has already flipped Bitcoin in terms of daily value transfer on the network thanks to stablecoins. As previously mentioned, Ethereum has a larger market to fill, so assuming the success of both Bitcoin and Ethereum, the flippening is almost inevitable. Like smart phones flipping basic mobile phones, it may take a while bit it will happen. It will take more time than many of us expected back in 2017.

As mentioned at the beginning, this is part 3 of a series of posts I will be making. You can find part one and part two here.

The material (http://news.berkely.edu/20ll/09/22/brain-movies/) shows one example of how the fMRI can measure brain activity associated with visual information and generate image data.

Mitch McConnell's Brother-in-Law One of the Masterminds of Trump-Russia

Jim Breyer, Mitch McConnell's brother-in-law, Facilitates Russia’s Takeover of Facebook through Yuri Milner
In 2005 Jim Breyer, a partner at Accel Partners, invested $1 million of his own money into Facebook and gained a seat on the board (1).
In Feb 2009 Jim Breyer visited Russia with a number of other Silicone Valley investors. While there, Yuri Milner, a Russian tech entrepreneur who founded DST with close ties to the Kremlin, hosted a dinner to cap the entire event (2). As one Moscow source put it:
DST has the backing of the big boys at the top in the Kremlin, which is why it will go from strength to strength (5)
Milner found out Breyer liked Impressionist art and took him to Russian’s Hermitage Museum to view Matisse paintings otherwise closed off to the public. Three months later Yuri Milner’s DST invested into Facebook at a bloated value. (2)
Mr Milner dismissed suggestions that at a valuation of $10bn he overpaid for his stake in Facebook, especially given that the social networking site has yet to prove it has turned to profit. (3)
it’s seen as a desperate and rather vulgar deal on the one hand—Milner buying a small stake in Facebook, valuing the entire company at $10 billion—and, on the other, Facebook debasing itself by taking Russian money. Russian money! In fact, it seems rather like a desperate deal for both parties (in the midst of the banking crisis, Facebook has only two other bidders for this round—and none from the top VC tier) (4)
By the end of 2009, DST would own 10% of Facebook. Later revealed by the Paradise Papers, DST’s investments into Facebook were financed by the Russian government through state-owned Gazprom. That’s right, in 2009 Russia owned 10% of Facebook. (6)
Soon after, the two continued to work together on other investments. Breyer introduced Milner to Groupon, and Milner helped Breyer’s Accel invest into Spotify (7). In 2010 an Accel representative joined a gaggle of Silicon Valley investors to Russia and signed a letter promising to invest into the country (8).

Jim Breyer and Rupert Murdoch
Then in Nov 2010 Jim Breyer invested into Artsy.net, run by Rupert Murdoch’s then-wife, Wendi Deng, and Russia oligarch Roman Abramovich’s then-wife, Dasha Zhukova. Jared Kushner’s brother, Josh, also invested in the fledgling company (1).
At the time Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation had a joint venture with the Russian mob-linked oligarch Boris Berezovsky, called LogoVaz News Corporation, that invested in Russian media (4). It was Berezovsky’s protege close to Putin, Roman Abramovich, who tied Berezovsky to the mob.
According to the Mirror Online, Abramovich paid Berezovsky tens, and even hundreds, of millions every year for "krysha", or mafia protection. (5)
In June 2011, Rupert Murdoch ended his foray into social media by selling Myspace to Justin Timberlake (2) and elected Jim Breyer to the board of News Corp (3).

Jim Breyer invests in Wickr with Erik Prince
In 2012 Breyer invested in a encrypted messenger app, Wickr. Other investors include Gilman Louie and Erik Prince. To understand the connection, we need to go back to 1987. Breyer, newly hired to Accel Partners, made his first investment with Louie’s video game company that owned the rights to the Soviet Union’s first video game export, Tetris (1).
Louie went off to become the founding CEO of the CIA-backed In-Q-Tel which invested in Palantir. Palantir’s founder, Peter Thiel, sat on the board of Facebook with Breyer (2)(3). On the board of In-Q-Tel is Buzzy Krongard (7), the man who helped Erik Prince’s Blackwater receive their first CIA contract, who also joined the board of Blackwater in 2007 (6).
Around that same time, 2012-2013, Prince met Vincent Tchenguiz, founder of Cambridge Analytica's parent company, SCL (8), and was introduced to Cyrus Behbehani of Glencore, one of the purchasers of Rosneft stock detailed in the Steele Dossier (9). Cyrus Behbehani sat on the board of RusAl with Christophe Charlier, who is also Chairman of the board at Renaissance Capital (10), an early investor of DST (11).

Jim Breyer and Yuri Milner invest in Prismatic
That same year, 2012, Jim Breyer invested in Prismatic, a news aggregate app, with Yuri Milner.
Prismatic’s technology works by crawling Facebook, Twitter and the web (“anything with a URL”) to find news stories. It then uses machine learning to categorize them by Topic and Publication. Prismatic users follow these Topics and Publications, as well as Individuals and the algorithm then uses these preferences and user-activity signals to present a relevant Newsfeed. (1)
Sounds like the beginning of what could be a propaganda dissemination tool. That goes in-line with Yuri Milner’s vision of Social Media. Milner’s theory:
“Zuckerberg’s Law”: Every 12 to 18 months the amount of information being shared between people on the web doubles... Over time people will bypass more general websites such as Google in favor of sites built atop social networks where they can rely on friends’ opinions to figure out where to get the best fall handbag, how to change a smoke detector, or whether to vacation in Istanbul or Rome. “You will pick your network, and the network will filter everything for you,” Milner explained. (2)
So how does Milner intend to utilize the data gathered through social media? Let’s see what Milner did to Russia’s top social media site, VK:
In January 2014, Durov sold his 12 percent stake to Ivan Tavrin, the CEO of major Russian mobile operator Megafon, whose second-largest shareholder is Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia’s most powerful oligarchs, a man who has long been lobbying to take over VK.
Then, in April 2014, Durov stated he had sold his stake in the company and became a citizen of St Kitts and Nevis back in February after "coming under increasing pressure" from the Russian Federal Security Service to hand over personal details of users who were members of a VK group dedicated to the Euromaidan protest movement in Ukraine. (3)
The Euromaidan protest ousted the Russian-backed president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, whom Paul Manafort had worked to install. (4)

Facebook talks US Elections with Russia
In Oct 2012 Zuckerberg traveled to Moscow and met Dmitry Medvedev where they had a very interesting conversation:
Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Medvedev talked about Facebook’s role in politics, though only jokingly in reference to its importance in the American presidential campaign, according to Mr. Medvedev’s press office. (1)
While there he also visited Victor Vekselberg's Skolkovo, who’s currently under investigation by Mueller for donations to Trump (2).
As Obama’s effort to reboot diplomatic relations [with Russia] sputtered, federal officials began raising alarms about the Skolkovo Foundation’s ties to Putin.
“The foundation may be a means for the Russian government to access our nation’s sensitive or classified research, development facilities and dual-use technologies” (3)
And took time to teach Russian's how to hack Facebook friend data, the same hack used by Cambridge Analytica, Donald Trump’s campaign data firm.
In a 2012 video, Facebook's Simon Cross shows the Moscow crowd how they can "get a ton of other information" on Facebook users and their friends. "We now have an access token, so now let's make the same request again and see what happens," Cross explains (YouTube). "We've got a little bit more data, but now we can start doing really interesting stuff. We can get my friends. We can get some more information about one of my friends. Here's Connor, who you'll meet later. Say 'hello,' Connor. He's waving. And we can also get a ton of other information as well." (4)
Facebook later hired the individual who hacked Facebook and sold the data to Cambridge Analytica (5).
A month after that visit, Putin propaganda mouth-piece Konstantin Rykov, claims he began helping with Trump’s presidential aspirations (6). Days later, Trump registered “Make America Great Again” (7). The following year, Russia's Troll Factory, the Internet Research Agency, was created as was Cambridge Analytica.

Andrei Shleifer and Len Blavatnik
Len Blavatnik, a US-Russian oligarch currently under investigation by Mueller, graduated from Harvard in 1989 and quickly formed Renova-Invest with Viktor Vekselberg, another oligarch under Mueller’s investigation (7)(8). Since then Blavatnik has maintained close ties to the university.
In 1992, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Andrei Shleifer led a consortium of Harvard professors to assist Russia’s vice-president, Antaoly Chubais, with the privatization of Russia’s state-run assets. Scandal broke when it was revealed Shleifer, through Blavatnik’s company and with Blavatnik’s guidance, invested in the very companies he worked to privatize. (6)
Years later, Shleifer continued to fund loans to Blavatnik for Russian ventures through his hedge fund, managed by his wife, Nancy Zimmerman (9), and created the Russian Recovery Fund which bought $230 million of Russian debt from Julian Robertson’s Tiger Management (10), who’s seed fun, Tiger Global, later invested in Milner’s DST.
Len Blavatnik and Viktor Vekselberg are major investors in Rusal (11).
Schleifer is still a professor at Harvard.

Breyer and Harvard
On April 2013, two months after Breyer was elected to the board of Harvard (1), Len Blavatnik, donated $50 million to the school (2) and joined the Board of Dean’s Advisors (3)(4) and Harvard’s Global Advisory Council (6) alongside Breyer. The next month Breyer announced plans to step down from the board of Facebook with an intention of focusing on his latest Harvard appointment (5).
In 2016 Len Blavatnik donated over $7 million to GOP candidates, including $2.5 million to Mitch McConnell himself (7).

Jim Breyer, Blackstone Group, and Saudi Arabia
In 2011 Schwarzman was named to the board of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (2), headed by Kirill Dimitriev.
In June 2016, during Trump’s presidential campaign, Jim Breyer met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin-Salman, or MBS (8). The next month Breyer joined the board of Blackstone Group (1) alongside Stephen Schwarzman and Jacob Rothschild (3). In the past Blackstone Group had loaned Kushner Companies a combined $400 million over multiple projects (7). In the 2018 election cycle, Schwzarman donated $5 million to the pro-McConnell superPAC, Senate Majority PAC (13).
Jacob’s brother, Nat, is business partners with both Oleg Deripaska (4), Rupert Murdoch, and Dick Cheney (5). Nat is also a major investor in Glencore, one of the purchasers of Rosneft stock detailed in the Steele Dossier (6), and RusAl.
In January 2017, Breyer’s business partner at Wickr, Erik Prince, was introduced to Dimitriev by MBS’s emissary, George Nader, and the Crown Prince of the UAE (10).
On October 22, 2018, three weeks after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, when most American investors were spooked away from Saudi Arabia, Jim Breyer showed up at an MBS-hosted Saudi business summit alongside Kirill Dimitriev of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (9). That same day, MBS pledged $20 billion for Blackstone Group's new infrastructure fund (11) to fund Elaine Chao's $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan (12). Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnells wife and Jim Breyer's sister-in-law, is Trump's Secretary of Transportation.

The bizarre story of my 63-year-old mother's dementia and how she was exploited by multiple criminals on Instagram

This is the story of how a normal 63-year-old woman who was suddenly stricken with dementia and financially exploited by criminals for upwards of $100,000. She now lives in a memory care facility that she can't afford and no one has been brought to justice.
My name is Scott and Sandy is my mother. I was her first child, born 38 years ago. I will always remember my mother as a highly intelligent being, an advocate, and a positive force of energy.
Over the past 2-3 years, my mother’s personality has changed. She became paranoid, negative, and exhibited odd behaviors. Other family members noticed this change, and like me, didn’t know how to approach it. I experienced her walking into a restaurant multiple times and having to sit at different tables before the right one was found. This was subtle, but there was an odd component of entitlement and lack of empathy for the wait staff and other customers we were cutting off. During another interaction 3 years ago, I asked her if she was going to take a trip to Belize where a friend of hers had a condo they offered. She had a concerning, nonsensical reply of, “No, because I’ve never been there.” Again very subtle, but stuck out as very odd coming from someone so intelligent. While riding in my car, she would be extremely paranoid, exhibiting verbal expressions of fear during very slow driving to accommodate her. Over a year ago, she asked me if it would be a good idea to send someone on Instagram money to mine Bitcoin for her. I was very shocked that she was even considering something that is clearly a scam, but chalked this up to her being naive about technology. Looking back on all this, it now makes sense knowing her diagnosis.
I think myself and other family members had written off all this previous behavior as a product of getting older or her possible unhappiness. This all changed earlier this year when we learned that she thought she was in a relationship with multiple Tom Cruises (yes, you read that right) and singer Luke Bryan, and had been sending money to people all over the world impersonating these celebrities on the internet. It was quite bewildering to be faced with such bizarre circumstances. I initially tried to talk to her to explain how these people aren’t real and how there are hundreds of predatory fake Instagram accounts posing as celebrities. This didn’t work, and she pushed myself and other people away who would question her activity.
As this narrative unraveled, we learned that she had been sending large amounts of money, including her claim of sending $20,000 to Tom Cruise that she has claimed is now owed to her. This prompted family members to take her to the Emergency Room. Nothing came out of that visit and her activity with the celebrity impersonators continued despite our efforts to convince her that she was being taken advantage of. We sent her a news article where a lady in Michigan was scammed out of $30,000 by a fake Tom Cruise, and sent a documentary on this exact phenomenon. These attempts didn’t get through to her.
We contacted law enforcement multiple times regarding this financial exploitation and nothing could be done because she would have to report it as a crime and she to this day doesn’t believe she has been wronged. We even have the names, addresses, and bank accounts of people she sent money to… law enforcement can’t do anything because she didn’t think it was a crime. She continued to wire money, take pictures of gift cards, and talk to a whole network of alleged criminals posing as celebrities. She maintained that she was going to marry Tom Cruise in England and she was going to work for an orphanage and live in a mansion with him that she was picking out. She was also claiming to be in a serious relationship with Luke Bryan, even though she claimed that he hacked her accounts at one point. I have a voicemail of her telling me about this and about how she isn’t going to be on Tom’s private jet, but just meet Tom in Hawaii. During one exchange when I was convincing her not to go on a trip with fake celebrities, she asked me if she could just go with Fabio, because she had seen him at a restaurant a couple years ago. I asked why she would think he would go with her and she said it was because they are the same age.
In June, she reached out to me for help with her homework for a class that required her to create a web page. I began helping her and asked her to write a paragraph on lavender. She went upstairs and came down with a blank flash drive, and I explained again that I simply needed a paragraph. This repeated 4 times until she finally wrote the paragraph. This was a stark contrast to her career where she wrote letters, agendas, budget documents, and even a book in her spare time.
At this point, I finally accepted that whatever she was going through was extremely serious and something I wasn’t qualified for or successful in helping with despite multiple efforts. Doing research, I came across the Thurston County Behavior Health Crisis Line and reached out to see if a designated crisis responder could give advice. After speaking with them, they determined that they would need to detain her. This was in early July.
She was released after several days, and nothing beneficial came from this detainment in terms of a diagnosis or plan to keep her safe. She was immediately back and talking with the fake celebrities. I agreed to help her get a new Gmail account so they couldn’t get back to contacting her and this was immediately compromised by her emailing the fake celebrities.
Myself, friends, and family have tried desperately to help her on so many fronts. We convinced her to get a new phone and that was immediately compromised. She was detained again in late July, and again released with no real outcome. The positive aspect of this second detainment was a visit by a family friend and ex-supervisor, a neurologist coincidentally. He was able to talk to her and assist us in getting her the medical attention needed. He maintained that this was likely dementia, what we had all been fearing.
In August of 2019, my mother was taken to see a neurology specialist at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Our fears of frontotemporal dementia were confirmed when Dr. Isenberg diagnosed her and deemed her to require 24/7 supervision and a guardian for financial and medical oversight. Her condition appeared to further deteriorate in late August as we learned she was having hallucinations of the celebrities and family members and was contacting us for help when they “wouldn’t wake up”.
In late August my mother drove by herself and showed up at McMenamin’s Kalama Harbor Lodge and thought that she had driven down in her car with my sister and celebrity singer Luke Bryan. When she showed up, she asked what room her husband was in, even though he was not there. She also was texting other friends and family and asking them when they were showing up. The front desk staff were severely concerned and Kalama Police and a local DCR did a welfare check.
My mother was detained for a third time in September as she was trying to leave on a fictitious concert tour with Tom Cruise and Luke Bryan. She had her passport and bags packed, and the sheriff found her in her vehicle. She was detained for weeks at St. Peters Hospital in Olympia and finally placed in a memory care facility.
Now that the courts have appointed her a financial guardian, we have learned that the financial devastation is so pervasive that she had let 3 life insurance policies lapse, took on credit card debt, and spent all her resources. We think the financial devastation might be in excess of $500,000 if you include the lapsed life insurance policies. She is now unable to afford to live in the facility she resides in because like most facilities, they require private pay for 9-24 months until they will just take Medicaid, and these places can be up to $6000 per month. And, you can’t apply for Medicaid unless your resources are basically gone. So, it’s a very tenuous and unfortunate situation.
Frontotemporal dementia has caused my mother to become a very vulnerable person with the sensibilities of child. She was exploited by multiple alleged criminals who took the resources she now desperately needs to have appropriate care until this terminal disease takes her life. She is recently fell and broke her arm, as the disease is presenting elements of Parkinsonism, beyond the stark cognitive disability. I hope that you will be able to help even a little, but I also hope this raises awareness about dementia and the rampant financial exploitation that occurs on social media. Be vigilant about mental health with your family and friends.
Thanks for your consideration and help.

Which type of curren(t) do you want to see(cy)? A analysis of the intention behind bitcoin(s). [Part I]

Bitcoin was released to the world in 2009 by someone (or a group) who authored a technical whitepaper, released the source code to the protocol and commented on a few p2p forums and mailing lists under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto for a few months prior and a few years afterwards before leaving the project. The project was left in the hands of Gavin Andresson who was another cryptographer that satoshi communicated regularly with on the forums and had been one of the first people involved in the project. Some time after satoshi left, one of his accounts was allegedly hacked and bitcointalk (the primary forum) itself was hacked so a meme kind of emerged that satoshi wouldn't be able to post again from his accounts or that posting from them would be dubious. In 2016 an Australian by the name of Craig S Wright was exposed by Wired and Gizmodo as potentially being the inventor of bitcoin. Craig then signed privately for Gavin Andreson, Jon Matonis but then when he was supposed to cryptographically sign to a journalist the method performed did not hold up to public scrutiny because he could have copy pasted a fragment from an earlier known signed message from satoshi and not generated it himself with the private keys. This cast a lot of doubt from many on the man's claims and he published an article saying he wasn't brave enough to sign.
Since then the term cryptocurrency has blown out massively to include anything with a distributed ledger technology, a token, a security, and has really just devolved into a cesspit of buzzwords and disinformation. Once satoshi disappeared in 2011 and left the repo in the hands of Gavin and the open source community, it left a power vacuum in the space for how to interpret the protocol, whitepaper and handle the development. Gavin Andresson brought some other developers on board from the forums and mailing lists, Shortly after Gavin gave some other developers commit access, bitcointalk was hacked and these new developers somehow deleted gavin from the github repo due to apparent concern that his account was compromised from the hack and afterwards once he validated his identity in certain accounts he was never given access again. Gavin stopped being involved with the project after that.
In the time following satoshi's departure a meme had evolved that satoshi had left because Gavin had met with the CIA to discuss bitcoin. This meme combined with the interpretation of what satoshi meant when he included the quote "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks" in the genesis block, the subsequent rise and fall of silk road and darknet markets, and the general lore of the space, his cypherpunk mailing list associations had led the scene to paint/project upon him as some kind of government hating tax dodging l33t h4xor demigod.
Although in the title of the whitepaper it was described as p2p cash, bitcoin as most know it is now is marketed as a store of value. Although it was defined as the longest Proof of Work chain of digital signatures, bitcoin as most know it in actual fact has segregated witnesses (signatures) in the protocol. Although satoshi attests to how bitcoin is designed to scale to giant block sizes hosted and mined in data centers that never really hits a scaling ceiling, it is being sold as that even at 1MB size, the damage has already been done and the blocksize should be 300kB because every user needs to be able to run a full node for bitcoin to validate their own transactions with the lowest hardware and bandwidth requirements possible. A high vertice count with everyone running a (non-mining) full node is said to protect the network against malicious actions by the big bad government while graph theory states that it is the degree of inter connectivity of the vertcies (edge number) that confers security of the network against sybil attacks as it brings the number of hops down.
This decoupling from the original vision has led to development and scaling of bitcoin stalling for many years which led to the proliferation of many alt coins rising up to claim they possess superior attributes to bitcoin or can work in conjunction with bitcoin in a gold and silver type relationship, or serve a different use case to bitcoin. The debate between the groups that represented the opposing roadmaps reached a climax with bitcoin itself forking into two now separate blockchains with the minority chain being declared the imposter by social media claiming hashpower and the market had chosen despite their chain changing on the protocol level to implement segregated witnesses and reject the block size increase. These two now separate chains both forked again to birth bitcoin gold and diamond on the segwit chain and bitcoin cash and bitcoin sv on the non segwit chain. At the non segwit chain fork, bitcoin cash implemented checkpointing at the protocol level whereas bitcoin sv maintained the original nakamoto consensus and sought to scale greater than the 32MB blocksize limit BCH maintained with 64MB blocks.
Following these forking events both BTC (segwit) and BCH (checkpoints) also implemented Schnorr signatures which was marketed as economising the size of a typical bitcoin transaction though in actual fact it can be used to obfuscate signatures and allow for the mixing of coins to mask the chain of digital signatures and essentially "anonymously" launder money. The BSV chain (now Stewarded by Dr Craig Wright) was then declared the loser of that hash war by people heralding the power of the market and the miners to democratize money. The problem with such a claim though is just like current polical democracy, this apparent democratisation of money was just as susceptible to the influence of those who control the cryptocurrency media and just like in politics, there is a cabal like group that exerts a disproportionate influence over the narrative and appears to serve the interests of those in on the racket rather than those it is allegedly informing.
The main forums for discussion of cryptocurrency originally were bitcoin.org, bitcointalk.org and /Bitcoin with all three of them for some time sharing the same moderator theymos. Coindesk and the bitcoinmagazine (started by ethereum devs) were some early sources, talking heads like andreas antonopolos (andreasma), peter todd (petertodd) and greg maxwell (nullc) being propped up as sources of knowledge on what is the best course of action for scaling and endorsing solutions like small blocks, second layer solutions and segwit as a necessarry bitcoin improvement protocol (BIP) while people like Roger Ver (memory dealers) and Dr Craig Wright (craig_s_wright) endorsing a block size increase. Because the core developers had chosen to scale with small blocks and lots of nodes on the network were signalling in support of Segwit any discussion of a big block alternative was considered discussion of an alt coin and deleted and eventually users banned from /bitcoin. Out of that incident /btc emerged as an apparently censorship free forum for the discussion of all scaling plans for bitcoin but was ultimately a partisan sub populated with dejected big blockers. After the BCH fork, discussion for bitcoin sv exists on a few subs /bsv (modded by BCHers), /bitcoinsv (moderated by the lead technician at nChain (Craig Wright's company) and /bitcoincashsv where many users have been banned from both /bitcoin and /btc.
Now this so far is just kind of a synposis of the history of bitcoin covering all three of the main contenders for the legitimate claimant of the name but the part 2 will look more at what kind of drastically different societies would be built upon the different versions of the protocol and what may seem like their subtle differences and which one is likely to succeed.

Insider info on MAJOR possible scam, targeting non-accredited crypto investors

I have reason to believe there is a major scam brewing under the surface in the STO (security token) side of the crypto industry, targeting non-accredited investors who are involved in traditional crypto.
There’s a guy out of Buffalo, New York who I worked with briefly years ago, a shared acquaintance of another biz colleague of mine. When I found out about their illegal activities in penny stocks and fraudulent debt collection I cut ties with both of them and even reported them at the time.
Recently I found out this particular guy in Buffalo, Todd Wier (full name is Thaddeus Wier Jr.), had gotten into the crypto space as what seems like a new way to money launder and scam average people out of their hard-earned money. He is now the Founder of an STO issuance platform called PrefLogic, and their message is supposedly to “empower the little guy” to raise money through a security token. They preach this message of empowerment for the average person HARD and talk about starting a revolution where anyone can raise money through their platform (side note, platform does not seem to exist yet). They have been raising money overseas from non-accredited people, and I know they raised over $1M. Recently I heard they are planning for another round of fundraising, again from non-accredited investors.
The funny thing is, Todd Wier is from a corrupt family, somewhat similar to the Trumps on the surface. He’s the Jr., and he and his brother used to work for their dad Thaddeus Wier Sr. at his securities company in NY in the 80s & 90s. This is a serious crime family and they are notorious in some circles in New York. There is even a Thaddeus Wier the 3rd now (Todd’s son) who’s also involved in the family businesses, along with Todd’s other kids.
In the 90s, the Weir’s penny stock brokerage company called TAW Securities was shut down for misleading investors and encouraging them to invest in risky stocks that were all connected to the Wier family, like a used car company the family owned. Their investors were average people taking money from their severance and retirement funds who were duped by the Wiers. One investor was a woman who had been laid off and who was supporting a terminally ill husband, and she lost her severance money in these shady investments. This information can all be verified by searching for Thaddeus Wier and TAW Securities online, there are numerous local news articles from the time. Todd Wier personally plead guilty on 2 counts of felony securities fraud and basically got off with community service and a small fine due to their ties to corrupt individuals at the top. He was also banned from participating in securities deals in NY, not that that stopped him from finding ways to skirt the law.
THIS guy is now launching a security token issuance platform targeting the same demographic of users who they defrauded through TAW Securities in the 90s. And you have to wonder why he only wants non-accredited investors to participate in PrefLogic.
Not only that, Todd Wier is deeply connected to a publicly traded penny stock called Bitcoin Generation. Bitcoin Generation is a company that was originally formed in 1998 by Todd Wier and his partners and it has changed its name and business at least 4 times in 21 years. Previous iterations of the company were Centale (Todd was CEO), NexxNow (Todd was CEO), and InoLife Technologies. This shell company, now as Bitcoin Generation, was shut down just this year by the SEC over a suspicious 20 million Euro loan into the company from London.
When I got to know Todd Wier, he was in the debt collection business, buying and selling fake loan data on consumers. There are ongoing investigations and even recent settlements this year for those activities, in multiple states.
I believe this PrefLogic project is a scam in the making, and people need to be aware. This person has a long history going back multiple family generations of scamming the "little guy." Everything I’ve stated here can be verified through news articles, SEC filings, and government websites online. I am purposefully not saying anything else that cannot be backed by provable facts, although there’s a lot more that can be said of the Wiers and their exploits.
I have sat on this information for over a year since I learned Todd was getting into the crypto space. I didn’t think his project would make it this far, but now I am very concerned for investors and his future issuers if PrefLogic ever releases their platform.
Does anyone know what can be done about this?
Edit: Craziest thing happened tonight... a few hours after I posted this, the guy who runs UpTrennd announced an official partnership with these guys. I wonder if people in crypto just don’t even care about these scams anymore, I hope he will see this and do more due diligence before he ties his reputation to this project and gets his followers to invest. Overseas non-accredited people sending a wire transfer to PrefLogic wouldn’t have much legal recourse as far as I know.
