Will blockchain replace traditional online gambling affiliate networks?
submitted by shielasmithCI to onlinegambling [link] [comments]
If you are into affiliate marketing in the online gambling niche, you may find this interesting. If you are just a gamer, you may just skip this, or rather read on because who knows? You might decide to be a blockchain online gambling affiliate.
Affiliate marketing is, believe it or not, yet another sector which found its way to incorporate blockchain facets. Statistically, revenue from affiliate marketing programs grows by 10% annually
, and in 2019, the global industry is estimated to be worth well over $12 billion
which is just staggering.
Similar to other industries that blockchain is enhancing, affiliate marketing is generally dependable on third-party providers called affiliate networks
. Doing what it does best, blockchain aims to eradicate third-party providers by employing blockchain affiliate networks that will streamline the affiliate process and put an end to unreasonably high fees. Blockchain affiliate marketing networks
in the iGaming industry or any other field can at any time use traditional, more popular affiliate networks to advertise themselves for substantially reduced fees – in some instances as much as 90%.
Moreover, employing blockchain in the iGaming affiliate marketing field promises FRAUD PREVENTION, HIGH TRANSACTION SPEEN, and BOOSTED COMMUNICATION FUNNEL BETWEEN CASINO OPERATORS AND AFFILIATES.
With all these, do you think blockchain will replace traditional iGaming affiliate networks?

Some advice for starting your channel
submitted by RoboKast to NewTubers [link] [comments]
I know that most of the people in this subreddit already have this part of the process down, but I feel as if there is still a lot of useful information that could help out some YouTubers who are just starting out. This was another article that I wrote on Medium
but once again I am going to put the information on here because I know it will be more helpful to people.
These are some tips for starting and growing your very own YouTube channel. They can help you improve your mindset and grow as a creator. If you have any questions, reply below or message me and I will answer them!
1) Creating vs Becoming Famous.
The major obstacle that prevents most people from making their own YouTube channel, is that they do not know what they want to post on it. They talk about how they really love the concept of doing YouTube, but that they don’t know of anything that they would be able to upload, because “their life isn’t interesting”.
And this is where I usually interrupt them.
It seems as if a lot of people want to start YouTube, not because they enjoy creating content or participating in a particular hobby, but because they want to become famous. They see other YouTubers who have made their success on the platform and determine that they want to become like these YouTubers.
Approaching YouTube with this mindset will not get you very far most of the time. While there are a few situations in which this would work, a majority of the time, it doesn’t even come close.
I would recommend finding a hobby or activity that you are extremely passionate about. Whether it’s gardening or gaming, make sure you genuinely enjoy the activity. Then, begin branching out and using your expertise to make content on it. Make sure you actually get enjoyment from creating this content and don’t create it solely to “become big” on YouTube.
It is extremely obvious when a content creator doesn’t put their heart into what they are doing, and as potential fans and subscribers discover this, they are going to be turned off from your channel. Make sure you are wanting to pursue this new path for the right reasons. If you have the drive and talent, the “fame” will come naturally.
2) The initial startup.
After you have gone through and made sure you have the right motives behind creating content, it is time to actually create it. Make sure you have a good (and unique) channel name, and a clean and professional banner and profile picture. The banner and profile picture will show that you know what you are doing and that you are going to take YouTube seriously (even if you have no idea what you are doing).
Then, begin planning out your first few videos before you upload the first one. Think about what you want to create, and how it will benefit your viewers. Don’t stress about the proper gear and high-quality camera equipment, because that can come later down the line. Modern iPhones record great quality video, and it is unnecessary to drop a lot of money on expensive gear that you may not need. As you begin to make money, you can use it to upgrade and get the equipment you have always wanted.
It is important to get content out as soon as possible to allow time for people to discover your new channel. During this phase is when most people give up on becoming a YouTuber, so it is important to stick with it and grind it out. I couldn’t even count the number of channels who have created 3 or 4 videos and then have gotten discouraged and given up. It happens all the time, and as long as you keep up with your new channel, you are taking steps in the right direction.
3) Patience is key.
If you stick with your new channel, you will eventually begin to see growth. It may take time, and it may take trial and error to find the type of content that works for you, but it will happen. YouTube is a long-term thing, and trying to take the short-term route will result in a channel that dies extremely quickly. So, have patience.
Don’t lose hope. If you are not growing as much as you would like to during this time, stick with it. It took me nearly a year to gain 1000 subscribers, and it felt like forever. But, it took me the same amount of time to get from 50,000 to 100,000, and it took much less to get from 100,000 to 360,000. If you begin to take off, you will grow exponentially, and the more content you have uploaded, the higher your chance of getting discovered.
As your fanbase begins to grow, you will be presented with more opportunities to make money.
Your first option is google Adsense. This is how all of the ads are shown on YouTube videos. I would recommend taking this as your first step, and your main source of income. Enable this as soon as you begin racking up views, and you know that people are enjoying your content. It will take a while to make a considerable amount of income, but enabling it is definitely a start.
When you do enable Adsense, please save us all the hassle and limit the number of ads you put on your videos. I like to follow a rule of 1 ad per 7 minutes of video. This creates a long enough break between placed ads to keep viewers from getting irritated and clicking off of your videos. If you put 3 or 4 ad breaks in every single video longer than ten minutes, you are going to appear as a sellout, and while it makes you more money in the short term, you will suffer in the long term.
Patreon is a website that allows viewers to pledge a specific amount of money each month to help you produce the content that you are producing. Patreon is a good option if your videos are extremely time intensive and provide value to the viewer. This is a great way to make some extra money if you have the type of content that works for this.
Plus, with Patreon, you can give exclusive rewards to members who pledge specific tiers of money. Doing this is a great way to build more personal connections with fans that want to get involved and support what you are doing. I would recommend doing this after you have already established your AdSense.
Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money off of YouTube. If you ever see videos where people offer their discount code in exchange for a % off coupon on a website, they are probably using affiliate links. This works by providing a small commission from each sale using the code, to the creator. This method works well if you want to promote a company or product that you use in your videos, and want to make money while doing it. Some websites offer really good commission percentages so be sure to look around and find one that pays well.
You can grow your channel a lot on your own, but it is better to have other people grow your channel for you. Try networking and meeting new people who would be interested in the type of content you are making. If these people genuinely like you and enjoy your content, they will begin sharing it with other people that they know. Networking is a great way to meet more people with similar interests, and doing it within the YouTube community will help you grow and help you meet new friends.
As you begin to grow and start to amass a following, you are most definitely going to be approached by YouTube MCNs. These are companies that promise you “an opportunity to grow” and give you absolutely nothing. They are a scam and a complete waste of your time and money.
I made another post on the subreddit
about this so check it out if you are interested and want to avoid being scammed.
- Don't create just to become famous. Make sure you actually enjoy the content you are making.
- You don't need insanely expensive equipment to be successful on YouTube. Focus on making good content and being entertaining, and get better equipment later once you start to grow.
- Starting out and being consistent from the beginning is the hardest part. If you can motivate yourself to push through it, it is worth it.
- Even if you don't have the ability to use adsense, there are still other ways to make money such as Patreon, Affiliate links, and a few other things.
- Work with other creators and interact with your community.
- Don't join an MCN
Hope this helped!- Robo
A Letter from the CEO - James Ferguson
submitted by Immutable_Team to GodsUnchained [link] [comments]
I’m James Ferguson, CEO of Immutable and Gods Unchained. In addition to Chris Clay’s recent State of the Beta
, I wanted to give an overview of our journey with Gods Unchained and where we’re heading.
Gods Unchained has always had a grand vision. When we sat down to plan it, we knew exactly what we wanted: to combine the magic of physical card ownership with the convenience and fun of digital TCGs. To build the first AAA quality game with blockchain assets at its core.
When Gods Unchained was conceived, Immutable had 3 employees, but only two desk seats at a coworking space… We then grew to 10 full-time and our first playable version of Gods Unchained. Today, we have our own office, and 63 incredibly talented people who are hard at work building something important.
In that time we’ve made many learnings, with the main ones I’d like to talk about being:
On Play to Earn...
- Learnings about designing successful Play to Earn systems.
- Learnings as to the crazy potential of a blockchain game and how the assets plug into the wider space.
- Learnings about what is required to bring blockchain gaming to the mainstream.
How important can a new TCG really be? Gods Unchained is the first example of a new type of game, a game which radically shifts the relationship between players and developers. A lot of you will already know this, but for those who don’t, it’s important to understand what exactly Gods Unchained does differently, and why the biggest gaming investor in the world and the biggest public crypto company in the world think it is the first example of an entirely new genre of game.
In the physical world, if I sell you a shirt, it’s yours. You can wear it, sell it, store it in your basement or destroy it – like I said, it’s yours. However, if you bought a shirt from Target, and they told you that (1) you couldn’t lend it to a friend and that (2) they could take it from you at any time, you’d correctly refuse to buy it: that’s (at best) a rental, not a sale. However, in the digital worlds of modern free to play (F2P) gaming, this is exactly what happens. Companies sell you a virtual shirt that you have absolutely no legal rights over. Last year, F2P games made $87B using this model. None of it went to players. We’re determined to change this.
While tradable assets are not new in games, what’s new is the power that trustless ownership, programmable assets and the infrastructure of the Ethereum network bring to the table. These go beyond simply buying and selling in-game items, as it’s the things that allow users to creatively utilize assets beyond the game that really excite us – like smart contracts being able to interface with your digital assets to create new ways to earn. The potential we see in this space grows with every day that Gods Unchained expands.
The Play to Earn process is the foundation of our game, and every iteration is based around the above ethos of true, trustless ownership. We’ve had a few iterations of this so far, and we’re constantly learning from these segments in order to build out more instances in the future.
One of the biggest scaling potentials for Play to Earn comes from our work with StarkWare on building out Immutable X
so that our players and buyers can capitalize on the bonuses of blockchain (namely: trustlessness & programmability) without being hindered by the downsides (gas fees & limited output).
The learnings we’ve gained from the Genesis Raffle and the Flux & Fusing system have shown us what Play to Earn needs to take off and run in a sustainable manner, and Immutable X is a big key to carving this out as we forge ahead. On blockchain’s potential...
Immutable X also helps reinforce the creation of user-built tools. Blockchain assets create a space where anyone can build an extension to Gods Unchained’s asset system. Here, users have complete freedom to interact with these extensions, with no input from Immutable. We believe that you are, after all, best placed to make that call.
When this is combined with upcoming guaranteed Immutable X fees for affiliates and sites who drive liquidity, this means that now is an exciting time to be building community tools for Gods Unchained, and we’re incredibly grateful for those talented people who are doing so now. When we first started, we had a few ideas of what could happen in this space, but we’re endlessly surprised (and impressed!) with what the community is doing in this space.
Outside of Immutable X, there are other infrastructure spaces showing huge potential on the Ethereum network that have come to our attention, the most recent being the billions of dollars locked in decentralized finance (DeFi). How we can deliver more value to our players and buyers based on the inherent interoperable nature of cards and chests is a question constantly at the forefront of our minds, and DeFi has the potential to become an extremely exciting area for this, but one we’re only just starting to explore.
For example, Genesis and Season 1 chests are ERC20 tokens and therefore compatible with many existing DeFi primitives. While they are unopened, there are some wild ways in which they can be plugged into the wider ecosystem, such as:
- Uniswap pools for chests
- Use our (upcoming!) 1v1 API to play for chests
- Custom contracts to collectively purchase and open a chest, then divide the spoils of opening based on God (useful for all the Nature mains out there)
These are simply ideas at this stage, but we’ll have more on this soon... On going mainstream...
So where are we with Gods Unchained? Are we ready to take advantage of these benefits, and to take the game to a million plus players? I’ll be honest: not just yet. We’re extremely keen to do this, and we have the money to simply purchase a large number of new users. But we know that, for any influx of players to be long-term sustainable, we need the following:
- Improvements to the UX of onboarding
- Improvements to the core loop of the game (e.g. the aforementioned Play to Earn)
- Scalability and liquidity for asset trading
We are continuing to explicitly focus on these problems, both in isolation and holistically. We want to create an enormous Gods Unchained economy, and this is where Immutable X’s function is at its most important, as it will keep the economy intertwined to progression through the Gods Unchained experience. This will enable us to retain mainstream users long term while creating value inside our existing economy.
With these changes and mobile in the works, we think that Gods Unchained will be ready to start scaling to the big leagues and hit the goal of 1M players.
The upcoming season will quite possibly be the last time where Gods Unchained is still quite niche, for early blockchain enthusiasts and some TCG players rather than all mainstream players. As we complete the final necessary pieces of the Gods Unchained ecosystem, the next step function planned is growth: for the playerbase, market and liquidity.
We think all of these upcoming opportunities are incredibly exciting, and it makes coming in to work each day both a joy and a rollercoaster. TCGs are popular – centralised games like Hearthstone have had their annual revenue estimated at over $400M. This revenue is essentially from selling a license to use non-sellable cards for entertainment. What Ethereum is doing to finance, by being programmable money, we aim to do to Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering by creating programmable cards and packs, and real markets.
For our players and fans, we are so grateful that you’ve been on this journey with us. We’ve grown immensely in the past year, and so has our ability to work effectively as a team and prioritize the most important tasks to both us, as a company, and you, the community (a balancing act that could count as the fourth major learning in this piece). We think we’re about to enter the phase where the journey becomes increasingly interesting and we’re excited to share this next part with you.

Best Affiliate network (Fullscreen, TGN, etc) for growing retro game let's play channel.
Hey All! My buddy and I have been doing retro let's plays for a few years now; our channel is getting a bit bigger (around 1500 subs) and affiliate networks are starting to come knocking. Does anyone have any opinions on which network would be the best if the only thing I care about is getting exposure (our content is pretty solid so we don't need things like copyright protection, audio libraries, or video editing help)? submitted by RetroKyth to letsplay [link] [comments]
I don't even really care about money too much either; I'd just like to get our content (which I believe is comparatively very high quality) in front of as many eyeballs as possible. Thanks!

- Q1 earnings season extravaganza!
- Holy crap, that’s a lot of earnings reports: Some of these results are just begging to be read in greater detail, but I haven’t had the chance to take a deeper look at any of these. For now, please accept my apologies. I’ll just report the Q1/20 profit and the y/y difference in net income over Q1/19 profit. I’ll read a few of the MDAs overnight, and hopefully have some greater details for you tomorrow.
- Suntrust Home Developers [SUN 1.24 unch] Q1 profit down 275% y/y… the company incurred a net loss of P21 million in Q1/20, which was down 275% from the net profit of P12 million in Q1/19.
- Basic Energy Corp [BSC 0.16 unch] Q1 profit down 289% y/y… the company incurred a P35 million loss in Q1/20, which was down 289% from the slightly less terrible net loss of P9 million that it posted in Q1/19.
- Philippine Stock Exchange [PSE 167.90 unch] Q1 profit down 100% y/y… the company basically broke even last quarter, which is a pretty terrible outcome after netting P181 million in Q1/19.
- Millennium Global Holdings [MG 0.13 unch] Q1 profit down 99% y/y… the company posted P6,000 in Q1/20 profit, which was down 99% from the… P465,000 it made in profit in Q1/19.
- Cosco Capital [COSCO 5.06 ▼2.50%] Q1 profit down 79% y/y… the company made P1.4-billion in profit in Q1/20, which is great, but which is also down 79% from the P6.8-billion in profit that it bagged last year in the same period.
- Global-Estate Resorts [GERI 0.87 ▼1.14%] Q1 profit down 48% y/y… the company made P248 million in Q1/20, down 48% from the P477 million in made in Q1/19.
- House of Investments [HI 3.40 ▲1.80%] Q1 profit down 41% y/y… P232m in Q1/20 profit, compared with P391m in Q1/19 profit.
- GMA Network [GMA7 4.85 ▲1.04%] Q1 profit down 20% y/y… P575m in Q1/20 profit, down 20% from P722m in Q1/19 profit.
- Vitarich [VITA 0.86 ▲4.88%] Q1 profit up 152% y/y… P93m in Q1/20 profit, up 152% from the P173m loss it posted in Q1/19.
- Jolliville Holdings Corp [JOH 4.35 ▼18.69%] Q1 profit up 560% y/y… P33m in Q1/20 profit, up 560% from its P5m profit in Q1/19.
We knew that these results would largely suck. Frankly, the market is almost numb to the huge losses that we've been seeing, and probably because the reasons are all very easy to understand. Q1 and Q2 are something of a "free pass". What's more interesting to me is to read the MDA sections of each earnings report to see how the directors of each company account for their results. Do they plan to respond with changes to their business plan, or did they double-down on the same set of assumptions and processes that got them into this mess in the first place? Like I said, the results here are something of a free pass, but Q3, Q4, and 2021 will not be. That's when the winners will survive and the losers will fall by the wayside based on the machinations of each company's board right now.

2b2t is the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft. There are no rules. Hack, cheat, steal, lie, nothing is off limits. Wars, battles, builds, and betrayals have all happened here. As with anything related to 2b2t, viewer discretion is advised. Welcome to the world's worst server.” ―One of FitMC's intros Peter Larsen
, known online as FitMC
(born: February 1, 1990 [age 30])
is an American gaming YouTuber
best known for his videos
about the Minecraft
anarchy server 2b2t
. He also became a meme due to his memorable catchphrases such as "The oldest anarchy server in Minecraft" and "Clown down".
Fit was victorious over TheCampingRusher
, and is friends with SalC1
. He is also the largest 2b2t YouTuber at over 1,000,000 subscribers as of June 2020.
Fit first made his account in November of 2008 but did not upload his first video, Team Fortress 2, until 2012. Fit joined 2b2t in 2013 and made his first video on it.
Just as the server began dying, with lots of old members either getting bored or moving on with different things, on June 1, 2016, a large YouTuber by the name of TheCampingRusher
uploaded a video on 2b2t. Many of his fans attempted to join 2b2t, causing massive lag. The server wasn't prepared to handle an influx of this many players. During the 2016 YouTube invasion of 2b2t, also known as the Rusher War, Fit was chosen to be the leader of Team Veteran. Team Veterans' goals were to kill new players, nicknamed "Newfags" by old veterans and to stop them from leaving 2b2t spawn. Team Veteran has since been disbanded since TheCampingRusher left 2b2t. He now does base tours and history videos on 2b2t.
He recently started streaming on SMPLive, a whitelisted Minecraft server for streamers. He was one of the first to find a Minecraft flying exploit using minecarts and fishing rods. SMPLive has since been shut down due to the start of the SMPEarth Minecraft server, a whitelisted server for streamers that uses a map of the Earth. As a result of all the hype around SMPEarth, there was little player activity on SMPLive. Fit is also a member of SMPEarth.
Fit joined 2b2t in the summer of 2013, during the second spawn incursion. He traveled thousands of blocks out "surviving on zombie flesh and spider eyes" before starting a farm. He made his first base in a winter biome near spawn. Somewhere down the line, he made another base that was griefed by Popbob, who killed Fit during the grief. He was a loner for his first year of 2b2t, until he was invited by James_Rustles in 2014 to join a base called the "Kool Kids Klub", where he helped build the largest gold farm on the server. When the base was discovered due to it being near the highways, Fit fled and returned to a spawn base of his, where he began experimenting with powered flight, making the first successful flying machine and later the first flyover of spawn. Following this, he was approached by Sato, who invited him to Asgard II. After Oremonger was given to Asgard II by a leaker, the members of Asgard II griefed their own base to make sure no other player would have the satisfaction. When the coordinates were leaked and the third incursion began, Fit joined the team at Wrath Outpost and fought in the incursion. After it's conclusion, Fit traveled by flying machine far out in the End. While doing so he stumbled on Space Valkyria. After this, he set up "the DFC", an outpost for travelers. He planned for it to allows travelers to dock/start their airships. He abandoned when he learned that Mojang planned to extend the End. Afterward, Fit moved to Aureus City, began farming gold, and began searching for ruins on 2b2t. He also griefed some spawn bases or whatever was associated with the Imps on January 3rd, 2016 alongside Babbaj and Jared2013.
When the Rusher Invasion began in the summer of 2016, Fit, in collaboration with Sato and Offtopia, created Team Veteran as a means to oppose the Rusher onslaught. It was a plan to both control a portion of the mass onslaught of new players but also lay a trap for an eventual betrayal by oldfags. However, this betrayal attempt did not go over as planned, as Fit was eventually shunned by many of his oldfag peers for "selling out" and collaborating with TheCampingRusher for the sake of perpetuating “YouTube Minecraft-roleplay drama”.
During the course of the war, he began to rise to fame as he started to post several videos about 2b2t on his personal YouTube channel, either showing montages of him killing Rushers, advertising Team Veteran, or doing base tours and history videos. By the end of the war, his fame was becoming larger than expected and due to this rise in popularity, many Veterans began to think that Fit was becoming somewhat soft towards his newfag subscribers, who the Veterans intended to backstab once the war was over with. Because of his YouTube success, many people began labeling him a "jewtuber".
Fit declared the Rusher War officially over on October 9th, 2016, and put Team Veteran to rest.
On November 10th, 2016, he went to the End to prepare for the 1.11 update on 2b2t, before the great rush for shulker boxes starts. He eventually returned to the overworld on December 7th, 2016, during the chaos of the Fifth Incursion.
He declared a short resurrection of Team Veteran as a reaction to a French Youtuber with 600,000 subscribers named AgentGB, who joined 2b2t and showcased the server on his channel. However, in response to the large amounts of hate that he was receiving, AgentGB mentioned that he did not intend to create a 2b2t series on his channel and so never created another video. After this, Fit went into a decline on 2b2t, after the Airship Record Stream and the Boat Record Stream. During this time, he quickly logged onto 2b2t and said: "If you disliked 2b2t in June 2016, you're going to dislike it even more in June 2017."
In January 2017, he returned to the server to kill some noobs in Spawn, and tour random monuments.
He also had a positive reaction to AntVenom's idea of joining the server. He states that Ant is more respectful of the server, unlike Rusher who came into 2b2t without notice.
On February 25th, 2017, he started to construct a new, entirely underground base, without showing any bedrock, but two days later it was found by ChromeCrusher anyway. He attacked fit while he was live streaming, but he was unable to kill him. At that point the base was only a giant hole in the ground, so fit didn't lose too much.
Later, on March 3rd, he tried to establish another, even safer base, this time in the sky, so no naturally generated terrain is shown. Eventually, he invited AlphaComputer and ChromeCrusher (it has been speculated, that Fit did that so Chrome wouldn't find it later and grief it like the other base incident).
During March, he toured the freshly griefed Wintermelon, and made a clickbait video about the Apocalypse Exploit, declaring the "end of 2b2t".
On April 4th, he started his journey to the World Border, through the +X nether highway. He arrived at Point Nemo, on April 24th, and several former diggers, including Byrnsy gathered, to celebrate his arrival. Later some people blamed him, for generating too much attention around the place, which may have caused the new wave of grief in Point Nemo.
On May 18th, another drama involving Fit, broke out as he visited the diggers' secret base, Point Dory, without their permission. In the very same video, he announced, that he'll go back to spawn, feeding the speculations, and panic about June 1st. Fit went on to join the Spawn Masons a day later.
After June 1st, with Rusher not returning to 2b2t, Fit made a memorial video about the Warlike many other people did at the time.
He is currently doing pretty much the same live streams and videos that he has been doing before June 1st, like his Alpha gameplay series, his 1.12 series, 2b2t vids, etc. However, now he has currently attended Vidcon 2017 and made a video about it as a 150K subscriber special. He also met Rusher in real life during the trip, showing that things settled between the two. Fit claimed that Rusher was one of the parts that caused his YouTube success.
On October 26, 2019, Fit made a video asking for help with finding the Far Lands on 2b2t. This video was not taken seriously by the community. This was mainly because Fit offered $2,000 to the first person to find the Far Lands, and the person who found them would have to let Fit log into their account in order to prove they actually found the Far Lands.
In May 2020, Fit reached 1 million subscribers. His special can be found here. After Fit announced he was completely devoted to YouTube and his 1 million milestone, it has prompted worry amongst queue times and player count. This milestone also played a part in the mass queue influx of 2020.
Fit joined SMP Live on July 7th, 2019 after possibly
getting an invite from AntVenom. He was known for his use of End Crystals to kill people and made many lavacasts at his base.
Fit plans to build Disney World in Florida, create nuclear bombs under Cinderella's castle, annex Cuba, and build a Publix.
Fit founded the Kingdom of Florida.
Fit came to Antarctica to be killed by Technoblade for an experiment to test power loss upon death. He became allies with the Antarctic Empire as a result.
Fit also rejected an alliance with TommyInnit, because he was a "Lone Wolf". However, he then aligned himself with Antarctica shortly afterward.
Fit reclaimed Florida following the Day 2 faction reset.
Fit conquered the Florida panhandle.

Question about (low) CW ratings, and networks in general...
Whenever I look at ratings for any given night of primetime, the CW is consistently very low. On March 19th, for instance, ABC's big Thursday shows both pulled over 7 million total viewers (1.3 and 1.5 share). On the lower end, for Fox's lesser-watched one (Outmatched) totaled 2.6 mil. CW's top shows both failed to break 1mil (515 and 642K). submitted by lie_to_me__ to television [link] [comments]
I understand why CW shows don't get cancelled based on these ratings (they're compared to other CW shows, and if they were cancelled like by ABC's standards CW would have nothing to air). I assume they are spending less to make their shows (for one, I bet their stars usually cost less), but how do they sustain that? Is there something that I'm missing about their business model?
And, a more broad question: What is the reasoning behind their being 5 networks? I know Fox came about in the 80s and WB/UPN/CW in the late 90s...but was that as a response to a gap in the market (something that the big three weren't offering)? Could another network crop up? (Corona notwithstanding, obviously that changes things....
Edit: Thanks for responses! To summarize in case anyone wants a quick answer and finds this later: it seems like the CW makes a killing on streaming platforms (particularly on Netflix, particularly internationally), and they keep their costs pretty low. Additionally, the market for CW shows is young people, and that matters even though those young people don't always see the shows live. They still watch the shows (digitally or Live+7), and that matters to advertisers in a meaningful but different way than on on a network that gets higher ratings. I also learned that All American is a show and that everyone is watching it on Netflix despite my not knowing it existed. For info on networks, WeDriftEternal's response is pretty comprehensive!
How to access the "Forbidden Wiki"
We all love Wikipedia, don’t we? A seemingly endless source of information, all consolidated on a well-formatted, visually pleasing website. And despite what your teacher might tell you, I can guarantee you that just about nobody’s trying to rewrite history pages with false information. Nobody has the time for that, nor does anybody care enough to do it. submitted by Mr_Outlaw_ to nosleep [link] [comments]
Beyond research and general curiosity, there’s a ton of fun stuff you can do on the site. For example, there’s the Wikipedia game, where you start on one topic page and then click on related hyperlinks until you reach the pre-specified destination page. Also, did you know that if you go on a Wikipedia page relating to any topic, click on the first hyperlink and repeat the process, you’ll eventually find yourself in a loop that always directs you back to the page for philosophy? Deep stuff, really.
Now, that’s all fun and whatnot. But did you know that there’s something else you can do on Wikipedia? A ritual of sorts?
I recommend proceeding with caution. There is a certain level of risk involved when pursuing something like this. Would I recommend it? Not really. So why am I talking about it at all? Well, I’ll explain later.
This is what you’ll need:
A device with internet access. Preferably something mobile, like a laptop or smartphone. Make sure that none of your personal information is stored on this device. If it’s a smartphone, take out the SIM card, delete all your contacts, social media apps, photos, etc. This is not an optional step.
Internet access. Preferably public, like a library or a large, crowded coffee shop. Obviously not so feasible right now, so I’d wait until the virus dies down. You can also just use your home internet. Not recommended, though.
A weapon/bodyguard/vehicle. Optional, but also not at the same time. You’ll only need these things for reasons I’ll explain later. But more often than not, you won’t be needing these things. 15/100 times, I’d say. Still, better safe than sorry. Try and pack some heat.
Here’s what you’ll need to do. Sit down at a library, coffee shop, university campus, or any place with public Wi-Fi. Start off by visiting an extremely popular Wiki page. For example, Michael Jordan, World War 2, Elon Musk, Google, etc. Now, here’s where you gotta exert a bit of brain power. You’re gonna have to traverse from this popular page to an obscure page that has hardly been seen at all in comparison. But don’t go searching up something like “creepiest Wikipedia pages”, or “most bizarre Wikipedia pages” and try to get there. If those pages are on a list, then they’ve probably received a lot of traffic.
You’ll need to find a page about something truly unknown/inane, like some unheard-of Romanian folk singer from the 1960’s who only released 2 songs before dying in their 30’s or something. Doing this is harder than you might think. The page truly has to be something that very few people are aware of or would bother to learn about.
Once you’ve found a page that you deem suitably obscure and unseen, you’ll have to click on the Wikipedia home page, find another popular topic and repeat the process. Maybe 3, 4, 5 times at the very max. But don’t worry about clicking pages endlessly. You’ll know that you’ve done it right when you come across a seemingly blank page. The Wiki symbol and side options will still be there, but the page itself will be devoid of any pictures or text. Except for the title of the page at the top, that is.
It’ll say “INFORMATION LIMIT”, followed by a string of numbers. Remember that string. You’ll need it later. Also, don’t close the browser.
You’ve done it. The “ritual” has officially begun. At this point, you’ll have to leave the location you accessed it at. For the love of God, don’t just go back into your house. Get into your car or walk on foot to a remote location without internet access. You can’t just be disconnected from a network. There should be no networks available to scan for at all.
Make yourself comfortable and open that Information Limit page again. Hit refresh. Another page should load up, despite the lack of connection. It’ll be a login screen, with a single prompt.
“Enter access point: “
Enter the string of numbers you memorized earlier, EXCEPT for the last 2 digits. Most people who try this just type in the string as it is. Do not do this or you’ll be met with a horrible fate. Pay attention and refrain from fucking it up. Once this is done correctly, you’ll be directed to something that looks like the Wikipedia home page, but just a bit different.
Now, I’m not quite sure what kind of site this is, or where it even originates from. A lot of people just call it the “Forbidden Wiki”, myself included.
I need to note something of great importance here. If the page that loaded up is not in English or whatever language that you originally accessed it from, then click off immediately and go home. You… shouldn’t try and subject yourself to any of the images that may pop up on the pages you visit. They aren’t meant for you. Aren’t meant for human perception. If you glance upon these images, you’ll end up with a fate worse than the one that you’d get if you entered the entire string into the prompt. And that one is bad to begin with. You’re curious, but don’t take the risk.
But if the page is in the language you recognize, then go ahead and proceed. You’ll notice that the Wikipedia symbol will now be a bit different than the one you’re familiar with. It might be a different shape. A different color. Different symbols, perhaps. More often than not, it’ll look more ominous. More sinister, I suppose.
You need to keep in mind that the articles and topics you might stumble across on this site do not exist in our world. They are not something we need to be worried about. Don’t stay up at night thinking about what you’ll see. As far as we need to be concerned, they’re not real.
From this point, you have free range to explore as you please (somewhat). Be sure not to look at more than around fifteen pages, spending less than a minute on each. If you linger around forbidden knowledge for too long, they will know you’re looking. And they’ll be sure to look for you as well. This is information that you shouldn’t be privy to, and they’ll make sure it remains that way.
Who are “they”, exactly? Anybody who has a solid answer to that question likely isn’t around to divulge it. Just know that they are not from this plane of reality. That they possess far more strength and knowledge that you could ever imagine. Don’t think you’ll be able to evade or God forbid try and fight back against them. Even the most decorated government field agent who’s been through hell and back wouldn’t come close to succeeding. Humans that try and overstep the boundaries of what they’re supposed to know are nothing but pesky bugs that need to be exterminated to them.
Or in the worst case… bugs that need to be made an example out of first.
But don’t be too scared. Like I said, just don’t linger on any one page for too long and don’t visit too many. If you do this, you’ll more or less be able to bypass their detection.
But don’t think this means you’re somehow getting the best of them. You’d need to read and analyze these forbidden articles for upwards of hours before understanding what they truly mean and the ramifications of their existence in the multiverse. With less than a minute of exposure, you’ll only be able gain a surface-level understanding of the subjects at best. And “they” hardly care about that.
However… there is a way to legitimately bypass their detection, enabling you to look at the articles for a longer duration of time. But these involve complicated strategies that require extensive knowledge in both programming and arcane occult rituals. And even then… the risk is still astronomically high. Again, not recommended.
You might be wondering why you can’t just take pictures and look over them afterwards for however long you want. Well, I suppose you could. But it makes no difference. They’ll still know you’re looking and react accordingly.
So why bother bringing any kind of weapon, you might ask? Well, it’s not to fight back against “them”. Like I said, that’s a fruitless effort. Nah, these weapons are for the “Lurkers”. Sometimes, if you’re unlucky (around 15% of the time, like I said), your mere digital presence on the Forbidden Wiki will alert them to your location, and it’s something that can’t be helped. But even though the Lurkers aren’t in any way affiliated with “them”, they do have comparable goals. They don’t want you looking at that information either. But unlike “them”, the Lurkers don’t want you to have any kind of awareness of the subjects at all.
You won’t be able to anticipate them. They might fall out a tree if you’re in a forest. They might step out of a dark corner if you’re in an abandoned building. They might crawl out of a lake. You get the gist of it. You won’t see them coming.
Some will be more humanoid in appearance. Some will look more… unfamiliar. They will try and kill you in any way possible should you keep looking at the site. One sure way to guarantee your survival in these situations is to just close the browser, drop your device and take off. If you do this, they’ll have no reason to chase you down.
However… if you do want to keep looking, the Lurkers aren’t impossible to dispose of. In fact, if you’re armed well and have moderate combat experience, you should be able to wipe them out relatively easily and then continue exploring the site. Conversely, you could hire somebody else to deal with them on your behalf while you continue browsing. I’d recommend this option. Like I said, you can’t stay on one page for too long. And if the Lurkers start giving you trouble... then you might be a bit screwed.
I’m not quite sure what the deal is with the Lurkers either. One theory is that they’re simply interdimensional agents/mercenaries hired by a 3rd party who wants to protect their information from outsider eyes. But then who is this 3rd party? And why are they trying to protect the info? This is why I don’t bother with the theorizing. There’s simply too much that we can’t know.
Well, now that that’s all out of the way, let me tell about some of the pages I’ve come across on the Forbidden Wiki. Keep in mind that I had under a minute to glance over these, and despite having a fairly good memory, I’ll only be able to describe so much.
The Great Lakes Incident
“The Great Lakes Incident was a naval battle that took place across all five Great Lakes on the Canadian-US border from 2007-2011. Reports about a mysterious ship rising out of the water alerted Canadian authorities in late 2010… the belligerents were of an unusual nature, able to withstand conventional weaponry… possessing multiple heads, considered in between amphibian and humanoid… finally resolved using firebombs and chemical weapons…”
Inhabitants of the Bermuda Triangle
“…the beings living on these small, scattered islands are extremely hostile towards human contact… reported to be able to fly, causing trouble for aircraft travelling through… believed to have originated from a large, underwater volcano…
The Grand Canyon Void
“The Grand Canyon Void is a hole in the ground in Northwest Arizona measuring approximately 4.6 meters in diameter… hikers reported staring into the hole for hours on end, before they were dragged away from it by park authorities… an average of 12 hikers were reported to have jumped into it during the month of March, with their bodies turning up in different countries…”
“Mr. Dream is an Australian DJ from Perth… his self-proclaimed style is known as ‘infernal trance’. People at his live shows have been reported to experience moments of incredible euphoria, before disemboweling each other in the crowd… the manhunt is ongoing, with his latest show reported to have occurred in June 2019, at an underground venue in Paris.”
The Akroid mansion
“The Akroid mansion is a large estate located on the outskirts of Houston, Texas, belonging to the Akroid family… famously known for being the founding members of the cult known as ‘The Dawn of the collapsing Moon’… 77 attempts have been made to infiltrate the house, resulting in 587 Officer casualties. Only one known member of the Akroid family has been neutralized… the members are known to conduct rituals involving biological transformations of the human body… these creatures react in accordance with lunar cycles, exhibiting the most violent tendencies when the moon appears early in its first quarter…”
Channel 51 News
“Channel 51 news is a controversial news station that broadcasts on Channel 51 between 3-4AM… the reports presented on the program have been considered nonsensical and disturbing to the viewers watching… sometimes the hosts have reported incidents that have not occurred up until that point, only for these incidents to transpire one week after, as was the case with the Tokyo Massacre… The location the channel broadcasts out of remains impossible to pinpoint…”
As hard as it may be to believe, these are some examples of the more normal pages on the Wiki. Some of the other ones I’ve seen are… downright fucked.
The man inside your head
“The man inside your head is an arcane entity that exists within your subconscious. His intentions are malicious, and a good portion of your mental capacity is used to suppress him from escaping at any given time. Don’t let him escape.”
Eye in the Sky
“The Eye in the Sky is large eye measuring approximately 4400 meters in diameter that appears in the sky every so often, usually during violent storms. When it appears, it is advised not to look at it under any circumstances. The only exception to this rule is for those who have been forsaken and absolutely need to. You’ll know if you need to.
The corner in your basement
“The corner in your basement is that one dark spot in your basement tucked away in that far corner. No matter how much light you shine on it, it’ll never illuminate, and you’ll never know what’s lurking within it. You better figure out what it is soon.”
The Snowstorm Angel
“The Snowstorm Angel is that figure you see in your backyard during heavy snowstorms. You’ll think your eyes are playing a trick on you, and that your senses are somehow being distorted by the snowfall but make no mistake. It’s there. People often assume its nature to be benevolent, given its name. That assumption is incorrect.”
These kinds of articles were always shorter in length. In fact, what I described above pretty much represented the entirety of the text. These articles all included pictures as well. I regret ever looking at any of them.
You might be wondering why I’m telling you about the Forbidden Wiki at all, along with how to get there. As contradictory as it may seem, this is a precautionary tale. Most people will read this and believe it to be fake, or simply lack the time, energy or motivation to go through with it. Good. Be one of those people.
But then there’s the people who don’t fit that bill. The “thrill-seekers”, so to speak. These are the ones who’ll look for it no matter what. Eventually they’ll find another set of instructions written by somebody else. But one that might not include a proper warning. One that doesn’t tell the whole story.
I am here to give you that warning. Don’t do this.
I thought I was safe just browsing around. I followed all the rules. I hired hitmen off the dark web to accompany me in case the Lurkers showed up. I always made sure to not overstay my welcome on any of the pages, in order to keep myself hidden from “them”.
In reality, the Forbidden Wiki is a strange and complicated place. You may think that you’ve experienced enough and that you’ve figured out all of its tricks… but don’t underestimate it. We were never meant to lay our eyes on something like this.
I stumbled upon a ‘particular’ page the last time I paid a visit to the site. This was the page that ruined everything. The title was simply a phone number. A phone number that contained my area code. Here was the description. I remember this one verbatim:
“(XXX)-XXX-XXXX is a number that will be calling you in a few days. You are obligated to answer his call and follow his instructions. If you refuse, he will come to you. You will only have two chances.”
Here’s the thing. I live in an apartment so I don’t have a basement. I’m pretty sure there’s no demonic entity living inside my head. I’ve never seen a giant eye in the sky. I’m in the South, so snowfall is rare and sparse at best. Up until a point, the shit I’ve seen on the Wiki had been 100% separate and disconnected from my real life. I really thought I had no cause for concern.
But… I did get a call. A call from a number I really hoped I wouldn’t see again. I let it ring through without picking up.
One last chance.
